Product Care Manual
To ensure the lasting beauty of your Lasvit luxury items, they
need to be occasionally cleaned. The frequency of cleaning
depends on the product’s shape and type, location and amount
of atmospheric pollutants. When doing so, please follow the
instructions below.
Contemporary lighting fi xtures & classical chandeliers
We suggest very large lighting fi xtures be maintained by
experienced professionals who know how to disassemble, clean
and reassemble each part correctly. Small and medium-sized
lighting fi xtures should be dusted regularly in order to avoid more
integral cleaning procedures. If the lighting fi xtures are dusted
periodically with a feather duster or similar, they should not need
to be cleaned more than once a year or even less frequently. Two
general methods for cleaning glass and crystal parts are detailed
below. However, before you start to follow any of them, always
unplug the lighting fi xture, chandelier or lamp from the electricity
circuit fi rst.
1/ Disassembly: This method includes taking your chandelier apart
to clean each piece separately. We highly recommend to call a
professional to do so. It is recommended that he/she fi rst sketches
a detailed diagram or takes pictures of your lighting fi xture so
that he/she can place all the parts back together correctly after
cleaning. Quick tip: Dusting fi rst cuts down on polishing later. Lay a
folded towel on the bottom of the bowl or sink you use for cleaning
to avoid scratches. Fill the bowl half full with lukewarm water with
a small amount of liquid detergent and a small amount of white
vinegar and gently swish up suds. Lay a folded towel on the bottom
of a second bowl and fi ll it half full with warm clean water and a
little ammonia for extra sparkle, if you wish. Wash each crystal
or glass piece in the soapy water and then rinse it off in the clear
water. Once the arms of the chandeliers are bare, wash and also
rinse them thoroughly. Do not forget to dust each light bulb. Put
the crystal parts back again working from the inside out and giving
each one a quick polish with a lint-free wipe (we recommend using
paper towels or micro-fi ber cloths, available either at automotive
or household and cleaning aisles of many stores).
All types of lamps with glass, crystal and porcelain shades
Do not use any harsh abrasives, polishes or chemicals. Instead,
use a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to wipe your light, using very
little pressure. Do not rub hard. If necessary, you may detach
the glass or crystal shade and wash it in lukewarm, soapy water.
Rinse off thoroughly with a white cloth dipped in clean water. Dry
completely before re-hanging.
Glass & crystal girandoles
Do not stick wax candles into candlestick holders by using
melted wax! We recommend using non-drip candles. When any
wax sticks to the candlestick holders, gently wipe it away using
lukewarm water or methylated spirits. We also recommend not
allowing the candles to burn down entirely (leave approximately
3 inches standing). Contact with fl ame could make the crystal
crack.
Decorative glass and crystal objects
Polish the product carefully with a soft, lint-free cloth or clean it
by hand with lukewarm water. Do not soak! Dry with a soft, lint-
free white cloth to maximize the brilliance. It is advisable to wear
cotton gloves to avoid leaving fi ngerprints on the object. Avoid
contact with harsh, abrasive materials and glass cleaners.
Vases
Over time, hard water can damage the crystal and leave a water
line on the upper part of the vase. If there is no demineralized
water available, it is recommended that you fi ll the vase to a
diff erent water level daily when changing the water. If your vase is
heavy and bulky, and thus diffi cult to move, we recommend to not
fi lling the vase completely with water but adding water or even
ice cubes daily.
Glasses & decanters
1/ By hand: It is better not to leave wine in glasses and decanters
after use, Rinse them immediately in clean water. Wash each glass
separately so that they do not touch each other. Rinse each glass
under running water, facing downwards, and fi nish by rinsing the
base. Should there be colored marks inside the decanter, place
alcohol, vinegar and coarse salt inside, shake and then rinse.
2/ In the dishwasher Select the “fragile” or “average temperature”
cycle on your dishwasher (temperature should not exceed
40°C / 104°F). Separate and prop up the glasses so that the force
of the water does not move them or knock them into each other.
We are pleased that you have chosen Lasvit for your purchase. We
hope you are enjoying the design, quality and beauty of your new
glass object.
2/ Without Disassembling it: This method is faster, but involves
working from a ladder or safe platform, therefore only attempt if
you are comfortable doing so. However, we do not recommend
this procedure and suggest calling a specialized professional to
carry out the cleanning process. If you choose to do this method
yourself, make sure the lights are off and the bulbs are cool before
starting to clean the fi xture.
(i) Spread a tarp or a drip cloth under the chandelier / lighting
fi xture to capture drips. Fill a small container half full with water
and your favorite glass cleaner and lower each crystal or patch of
crystals and glass parts into it, keeping it immersed for at least 30
seconds. Do not turn your chandelier round as you work. Keep the
fi xture stationary whilst you move around it, otherwise you may
inadvertently pinch cables or, worse, loosen your light’s fi tting.
(ii) Working from a safe platform, spray glass cleaner onto a lint-
free cloth and wipe each crystal / glass part carefully. This method,
however, does not work for smaller crystal chains.
(iii) Use a special crystal chandelier cleaner (e.g. methylated spirits)
if preferred. Put on a pair of cotton gloves soaked in methylated
spirits and gently rub the crystal pearls and ornaments. Methylated
spirits evaporate very quickly, so soak your gloves into the spirits
frequently while cleaning. The result is astounding, but be careful
not to clean near a fi re or heat source as methylated spirits are
highly fl ammable. Always remember to follow the instructions
on the bottle. We highly recommend laying a duvet or thick quilt
under the chandelier before removing crystal pieces or when
working on a chandelier without taking it apart, in case any of the
pieces accidentally fall.
For cleaning the metal fi nish, please read further: Metal fi nish
(iron, aluminum, brass, etc.) Use a clean, soft cloth to wipe the
metal base of the lighting fi xture or chandelier. Solid metal bases
can be polished with lemon oil. It is not advisable to allow vinegar
to come in contact with metal or brass parts of your fi xture.
