Confirming Proper Installation Conditions
1Fortheinstallationtoqua lify,confirmallofthefollowingpre‐existing
conditions:
–Visuallyexaminetheshut‐offforsignsofleakingordisrepair.
–PerformthesnifftestforsignsofgasleaksusingtheNaturalGas
DetectionDevice,andthenthesoaptestontheshutoffandcouplings.
–NoDiversionorTamperingEv
ident‐Visuallyinspecttheservicetothe
meterforsignsofdiversionortampering.
– AppropriateAccess‐Confirmthataccesstothemeterallowsaminimum
workareatobeestablished.Minimumworkareaincludeswrench
clearance,accesstoshut‐off.
– AppropriateService&PipingCondition‐Visuallyinspecttheservice
andpipingageandcondition.Confirmthatserviceandpipingar
efitfor
theremovalandinstallationofa newmeterandthatthereisnopre‐
existingleaks.
– AppropriateMeterOrientation‐Confirmthemeterisinstalled
horizontallyorsuchthatthemeterexchangecannottakeplace.
–Ifanypre‐existingconditionsarefoundcont
actyo
urSupervisor
immediately.TheSupervisorwillconfirmyourassessmentandgiveyou
directionforcompletingtheinstallationortoissueaskipcodeinthe
Handheld.
2Setuptheareaforinstallation.Turnallpossiblelightingon(forinsidesets).
Clearanappropriateworkspaceandlayoutalltools,eq
uipment.Pre
parefor
leaksoremergencyshut‐off.
Shutting Off the Service
1Notifythecustomerthatgasservic ewillbeinterrupted(reconfirmallgas
apparatusesareoff).Inspectfortheproperoperationofeachgasappliance.
Inspectthemetersetforcorrosion,burialoroverbuilding,damage,improper
installation,misalignment,outdatedregulator(Model1213Bor043R),orthe
smellofnaturalgas.
2 Connectthebondingjumperfromservi

erisertothepremiseline.Verifythat
theexistingmeterisoffbyisolating(shutoff)allgasapparatusesandconfirm
thatthereisnoflowonthemeterandregister.Ifthemeterisnotfunctioning
correctly,contacttheSupervisorimmediately.TheSupervisorwillconfirm
yourassessmentandgi
v
eyoudirection.
3Manuallyclosethecustomerʹsshutoffvalve.
–Ifyouhaveanyproblemclosingthevalve,contact yourSupervisorfor
directionwhichmay include,ifapplicable,usingtheoutsidecurbstopfor
shut‐off.
–Iftheoutsidecurbstopisactivated,theSupervisorwillnotifytheUtility
Su
pervisor.
4Removetheoriginalmeter.
aUsingapipewrenchandbackup,attempttoloosenthemetercoupling
nuts.
bUsemildtorquebuildingtomoderatesteadytorqueuntilthecoupling
nutbeginstoturn.
cDonotjerkorsnapthewrenches,ordamagecouldoccur.
