Uses
For waterproofing and protecting a wide
assortment of approved roofing system
and/or substrates that are structurally sound
such as conventional bituminous built-up
roofs, concrete, metal, aged galvanized
metal. Do not apply directly on
polyurethane foam, rubber roofs (EPDM),
TPO, PVC (single-ply roofing material) or
over uncured asphalt mastic or aluminized
roof coatings. Consult a Lanco
Representative for further details on
application.
Important
Florida Building Code and The National
Roofing Contractors Association consider
ponding water to be an undesirable non-
standard roofing condition. This may be an
indication of structural distress or other issues
with the roof deck. Contact a licensed roofer
to have ponding water areas inspected and
corrected to extend the life of your new roof
coating system. Previous leaks must be
repaired and allowed to dry as per
instructions below prior to application of
Lanco COOLGUARD™. Do no use on roofs
with a slope of less than ½ inch per foot. If
used on roofs with slope of less than ½ inch
per foot, Warranty will be void. Do not use
on asphalt shingles. GENERAL SURFACE
PREPARATION: PRIOR TO START, IF YOU
ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE PROPER
CLEANING & REPAIR METHODS FOR YOUR
TYPE OF ROOF, IT IS RECOMMENDED TO
CONSULT A LICENSED ROOFING
CONTRACTOR.
Surface Preparation
1. Wash and Rinse: Make sure the roof is
clean. Pressure wash the roof with a
mild detergent and rinse thoroughly.
Remove all dirt, grease and loose
particles such as gravel, old coating, etc.
Remove any mildew or fungus with a
bleach solution of 2 parts water and 1
part bleach. If needed use a scrub
brush with a long handle. CAUTION –
Read bleach warning labels. Wear
rubber gloves and safety glasses. Rinse
thoroughly and allow to dry.
2. Repair: with a putty knife, apply
SILICONIZER™ CRACK FILLER and
FIBER-GLASS PATCHING WEAVE over
any holes, dents, grooves, screws,
flashing transitions, seams, crack and
penetrations as leaks must be repaired
prior to applying Lanco
COOLGUARD™. All repairs to roof
prior to coating must be made to match
the existing slope of ½ inch per foot or
greater. Concrete surfaces, use a good
quality masonry cement mixed with
Lanco BONDING AGENT according to
label instructions. Rusty metal must be
cleaned with a wire brush and primed
with Lanco Red Oxide Primer or
equivalent. Replace any loose fasteners
or screws. Make sure cracks, seams and
flashing are clean and dry. With a putty
knife, apply Lanco SILICONIZER™
CRACK FILLER and FIBER-GLASS
PATCHING WEAVE over cracks, seams,
flashing, screws and other penetrating
objects.
3. Prime: Be certain all surfaces are
properly rinsed and dry prior to
applying coating. In most cases, a
primer is not needed. However, a
primer is recommended for bare
uncoated concrete, chalky surfaces or
rusty metal. For bare concrete and
chalky surfaces, use Lanco 100% ACRYLIC
ROOF and WALL PRIMER SEALER or
equivalent. For rusty metal, use Lanco RED
OXIDE PRIMER or equivalent.
