Main Controller Panel Settings
The following functions on the main
controllerpanelmustalsobesetproperly:
PERIODIC Flush Time
Thissettinginsuresthattheltersystem
willexperienceabackwashcycleasset,
regardless of the pressure differential
setting. In other words, if the contaminant
build-upontheltermediadoesnot
causeabackwashcyclebeforethis
setting, the Periodic timer will initiate a full
backwashcycleofalltanks.Thisprevents
troublesomedebris,suchasnesiltor
cakingalgae,frombecomingtoodifcult
toremovevianormalbackwashing.The
recommended Periodic setting is 24 hours; set for more frequent intervals for more problematic
contaminants.
FLUSH Duration
Setthedesireddurationofyourbackwashcyclepertank.Typicalsettingis90-120seconds,but
longerdurationisrecommendedifthebackwashowdoesnotrunclearforabout10-15secondsat
theendofeachtank’sbackwashcycle.
DWELL Time
Eachbackwashvalveneedstimetoopenandclose.Dwelltimeprovidestimeforonebackwash
valvetocloseandthesystemtonormalizebeforethenextbackwashvalveopensinthebackwash
cycle.Thissettingisdependentonsystempressureandtheageofthebackwashvalve,buta
range of 10 to 25 seconds is recommended.
Pressure Differential Switch
TheAutomaticControllerincludesaPressureDifferentialSwitchthatmustbesetforproper
operation. This device measures the line pressure difference between the inlet and outlet manifolds
onyourmedialtersystem.Whenthepre-setpressuredifferentialisreached,thePDswitchwill
automaticallyinitiateafullbackwashcycleofallltertanks,onetankatatime.Accessthisswitch
byopeningtheinnerpanelofthecontroller.YourLAKOSFilterSystemoperateseffectivelywith
apressuredifferentialsettingof6-7psi.Othersettingscouldresultinexcessivebackwashing
orinadequatebackwashing,eitherwastingwaterorcloggingyourmediasandwithtoomuch
contaminantmaterial.NOTE:Whenpressuredifferentialtriggersabackwashsequence,the
Periodic Flush Time (see above) is reset.
Start-Up Procedures
1 Startthesystempumporopenthesystemvalvethatsupplieswaterthroughtheltersystem.
Allowtimeforwatertolltheltertanksandairtobleedoutofthesystem.Aminimumof20psiis
requiredforsystempressureinordertoactuatebackwashvalves.
2 Mediasandwillrequireatleastoneinitialbackwashcycle(ormore)beforeactualoperation.Initiate
themanualbackwashofeachltertank,one tank at a time. To do so, turn the manual button on
theautomaticsolenoid(ormovethemanual3-wayvalveonthebackofthebackwashvalve).Give
thevalveabout10-15secondstofullyactivate.Thethrottlingvalveonthebackwashmanifold(see
Recommended Accessories, page 2) should be fully open at this time.
3 Oncetheowthroughthebackwashmanifoldbecomesconstant,thebackwashwatershouldbe
fairly dirty in appearance; this is especially true when starting-up a new system or new media sand
hasbeenadded.Atthistime,slowlyclosethethrottlingvalvetoreducebackwashowuntilonly
atraceofmediasandispresentinthebackwashow(aboutasmallhandfulofmediasandinthe
palmofyourhandduringa2-minutebackwashcycleisaboutright).Setthethrottlingvalvetothis
