• Depending on the content of the telephone book, it may be advisable to swap the order of the
contact's forename and surname when saying the name to ensure it is reliably recognised from the
telephone book.
• Avoid noise from outside the vehicle and close all windows, doors and the sliding/tilting sunroof.
• Do not point the flow of air from the vents towards the vehicle roof.
• Speak slightly louder at higher speeds.
• Background noise, such as conversations in the vehicle, should be avoided when saying voice
commands.
• Do not speak when the hands-free system is making an announcement.
• Avoid loud noises in the background when recording voice tags.
The main functions of the mobile telephone provision can also be operated by voice control after initial
user pairing or the automatic connection process.
Short dialogue and long dialogue
Voice control can be set to either short dialogue or long dialogue. The factory setting is long dialogue.
Is it advisable to use the short dialogue if you are familiar with the voice control function's commands
and menus. Say the required voice command after the tone.
With the long dialogue you receive additional instructions and information for the next steps in voice
control.
Help for voice control function
Help for voice control should be activated and listened to the first time you use it.
The help for voice control explains the basic operation of voice control. It also gives the main voice
commands for the current context.
• Press the , button on the multifunction steering wheel or the χ button on the three-button module.
• Wait for the tone.
• Say the voice command in the language set in the instrument cluster.

The language of the voice control function is the same as the language selected in the vehicle. If
the language selected in the vehicle is not available for the voice control function, English is selected
as the substitute language. If the vehicle has an instrument cluster menu, the language can be set on
the instrument cluster. To set the language on a vehicle that does not have an instrument cluster
menu, contact a Volkswagen dealership.
