ReplacingDefaultGeneralMIDIPrograms
ThePC3K’sGMsoundsconsistofPC3Kprogramstai loredtoworkwellinallGMsequences,
butyoucanalsoeditorexchangetheseprogramstosuityourtaste.ThePC3Kprovidesyou
withaGMsoundseteditorwhichallowsyoutoreplacethePC3K’s
defaultGMprogramswith
anyotherPC3Kfactoryorusercreatedprogram.Forexample,youcouldchooseadifferent
factoryorusercreatedpianoprogramtoreplacethedefaultGMprogram1,AcGrandPiano.
Thisway,anyGMsequencethatusesGMprogram1wouldnowusethenewpiano
program
thatyouselected.Alternatively,youcouldevenchooseadifferentinstrumenttoreplacethe
defaultGMprogram1,suchasPC3Kprogram47Harpsichord.Thisway,anyGMsequencethat
usesGMprogram1wouldnowusethenewharpsichordprogramthatyouselected.Usinga
PC3Kprogramthat
doesnotresembletheinstrumentnamedinthecurrentGMprogramwould
technicallymakethePC3KincompatiblewithGM,butsomeusersmaywanttodothisasaway
to“remix”GMsequences.
ItiseasytoreplacedefaultGMprogramsinordertomakeacustomGMsoundset.
OnceinGM
mode,therightsideofProgramModescreendisplaysalistoftheGMprogramswiththeir
standardGMnames.TheleftsideofthescreenshowsyouwhatPC3Kprogramisbeingusedfor
theselectedGMprogram.Pressingleftonthecursormovesyoutothis
field.Usethecursor’s
up/downbuttons,thealphanumericpad,theplus/minusbuttons,orthealphawheelifyouwish
toselectadifferentPC3KprogramforthecurrentGMprogram.Don’tusetheprogramor
categorybuttonsbecausethesewillchangethecurrentlyselectedGMprogram.Thenewly
selectedPC3K
programwillbeusedbythecurrentGMprogram,thoughthenameoftheGM
programwillnotchange.Tosavethesesettingsyoumustsavethemastertable(seeSavebelow.)
SavedsettingscanberecalledafterpoweringofforleavingGMmode.TorestoreGMmode’s
factoryselectedprograms,
presstheResetsoftbutton(seebelow.)

PressingtheOBJECTsoftbuttoncallsuptheOBJECTSpage(seebelow.)Fromhereyoucan
chooseoneoftwoutilityfunctionsforrenamingordeletingselectionsofusercreated(oredited)
objects.PresstheRenameorDeletesoftbuttontoaccesseachfunction(seebelowfordetails.)
TheOBJECTSpage
alsodisplaysthenumberofuserobjectssavedtointernalmemory(inthe
UserObjectsfield,)themaximumnumberofuserobjectsthatcanbesavedtointernalmemory
(intheMaxUserObjectsfield,)andtheamountoffreeinternalmemory(intheIntMemoryFree
field,thisdoesnotincludeusersampleRAM.)
(TheMaxUserObjectsfieldshowsthemaximum
amountofuserobjectsthatcanbeloaded/savedtointernalmemoryforallobjecttypescombined.Keep
inmindeachobjecttypeonlyhas2560ID#savailabletosave/loadobjectsto,manyofwhichareusedby
factoryROMobjects.)
Note:Thenumbergiven
fortheMaxUserObjectsfieldisbasedonloading/saving thesmallestuser
objectstointernalmemory.Whenloading/savinglargeruserobjects(suchasProgramswithmanylayers
andSetupswithmanyzones),thePC3Kmayrunoutofinternalmemorybeforethemaximumnumberof
userobjectshasbeenloaded/saved.
Theinformation
ontheOBJECTSpageishelpfulwhenorganizinguserobjects.Forexample,
whenloadingmanyuserobjectsfromanexternalsource,youshouldfirstdetermineifthereis
enoughinternalmemoryavailablefortheobjectsbeingloaded.Ifthereisnotenoughinternal
memoryavailable,usetheDelete softbuttonto
deleteuserobjects.(Tosaveuserobjectsbefore
deletion,seeTheSTOREPage on page 13‐6.)
TheOBJECTSpagealsodisplaysthecurrentinstalledobjectsversion(factoryobjects,)andthe
currentinstalledOSversion.Thisinformationisusefulwheninstallingupdates.
