ThissectionwalksyouthroughthehookupofyourPC3K.We’lltakealookattherearpanel,
thendescribethepower,audio,andothercableconnections.
Before You Start...
Don’tconnectanythinguntilyoumakesureyourPC3Kisproperlyandsafelysituated.Also,if
yourPC3Khasbeenoutinthecold,giveittimetowarmuptoroomtemperaturebeforestarting
it,sincecondensationmayhaveformedinsidethePC3K.Itisnormalfortherearpanel
nearthe
MIDIjackstobecomewarmafterawhile.
Connecting the Power Cable (Line Cord)
ThePC3KrunsonACpower:100,120,230,or240voltsat50–60Hz.Yourdealerwillsetthe
voltageswitchtomatchthevoltageinyourarea.Thevoltagelevelissetwithaselectoronthe
rearpanelofthePC3K.Unlessyouaresureitneedsto
bechanged,youshouldn’tadjustthis.
Whenyou’veconnectedthecableatthePC3Kend(asyoufacethebackofthePC3K,thepower
connectionisattheright),plugitintoagroundedoutlet.Ifyourpowersourcedoesnothavethe
standardthree‐holeoutlet,youshouldtake
thetimetoinstallapropergroundingsystem.This
willreducetheriskofashock.
Connecting Audio Cables
Analog
Afteryou’veturneddownthelevelonyoursoundsystem,connectthePC3K’sanalogaudio
outputstoyoursoundsystemusingapairofstereoormonoaudiocables.Monocableswill
alwayswork,butifyou’regoingintobalancedinputs,usestereocablesforabettersignal‐to‐
noise
ratioandabitmorevolume.ThePC3K’sanalogoutputsarebalanced,andgeneratea
“hotter”signalthansomepreviousKurzweilinstruments.
You’llfindfour1/4‐inchbalancedaudiooutputjacksontherearpanel.Fornow,connectone
endofeachaudiocabletoyourmixingboardorPAsystem
inputs,andconnecttheotherendto
thejacksmarkedMainLeftandRightontherearpanelofthePC3K.Ifyouhaveonlyoneinput
available,usethePC3K’sMainLeftoutputtogetthefullsignalinmono.
InMastermodeyoucansettheAuxoutputsto
duplicatetheMainOuts–usefulformonitoring
andotheroperations.Theyarealwaysinstereo,asistheheadphoneout.
