Basic Channel
ThebasicchanneldetermineswhichchannelwillalwaysbeavailabletoreceiveMIDI
information.DependingontheMIDIreceivemode(below),theBasicchannelmaybethe only
receivingchannel,oroneofseveral.
MIDI Receive Mode (MIDI Mode)
TheMIDIModeparameterdeterminestheMIDIreceivingcapabilitiesofthePC3K.Whensetto
Omni,thePC3KrespondstoincomingMIDIeventsonallMIDIchannels,andplaysthemon
thecurrentchannel.Thisisnormallyusedfordiagnosticpurposesonly.
AtasettingofPoly,thePC3Kresponds
onlytoeventsthataresentonthesamechannelasthe
PC3K’scurrentMIDIchannel(theonedisplayedonthetoplineoftheProgrammodepage).In
Polymode,thecurrentlyselectedchannelisalwaysthebasicchannel,soifyouchangechannels,
thebasicchannelchangesaccordingly.
With
avalueofMulti(thedefault),thePC3Krespondstoeventsonallactivechannels.Thisis
themodeyou’llusewhenyou’redrivingthePC3Kwithasequencer,sinceyoucanplaya
differentprogramoneachchannel.Atthissetting,youcanturnindividualchannelsonandoff
(on
theCHANNELSpage,describedlaterinthischapter).
All Notes Off
Ifthisparameters valueissettoNormal,thePC3KrespondstoAllNotesOffmessagesreceived
overMIDI.Ignorecausesthesemessagestobeignored.Ifyou’ reusingaRolandproductasa
MIDIcontrollerforyourPC3K,you’llwanttosetthevalueofthisparametertoIgnore.
Thisis
becausesomeolderRolandproductsoccasionallysendanAllNotesOffmessagewhennokeys
arehelddown—evenifyou’ resustainingnoteswithapedal.Youmightfindallyoursustains
missingfromyoursequence,forexample,ifyou’ redrivingyourPC3KfromoneofRoland’s
hardwaresequencers.
SettingthisparametertoIgnoretakescareofthi sproblem.
Regardlessofthesettingforthisparameter,thePC3KalwaysrespondstoitsownPanicbutton
byshuttingoffallactivenotesandcontrollers.
