theratesetforBeatsontheARPEGGIATORpage.KeepinmindthatShiftPatternsareeffected
byeveryparameterontheARPEGGIATOR page,whichcanbethecauseofunexpected
variation,orawaytoaddinterestingvariationtoapattern.
ShiftPatternsaremosteasilyusedandunderstoodwhentriggeredbyonlyonekeyatatime.
OnewaytopreventtriggeringfrommultiplekeysistouseoneoftheLatchtypes1NoteAuto,
1NoteAutoLow,or1NoteAutoHiwhenusinga
shiftpattern(seeLatch on page 749,below.)
Triggeringshiftpatternsfromonekeyallowsthepreprogramedpatternstosoundlikewhat
youwouldexpectfromtheirnames.Ifnootherkeysareplaying,patternswillstartovereach
timeakeyispressed(therearesomeexceptionstothiswhen
usingARPEGGIATORLatchparameters
otherthan“Keys,”thoughanewlytriggeredpatternwillalwaysstartatstep1.)WhentriggeringShift
Patternsfrommorethanonekeyatatime,eachconsecutivestepofthepatternshiftsthenote
fromadifferentinputtedkey,theorderofwhichisdecided
bytheorderparameteronthe
ARPEGGIATORpage.Thismeansthateachkeywillnotbeshiftedbyeverystepofthepattern,
causingyoutoonlyhearpartofthepatternfromeachkey,oftenmakingthepattern
unrecognizable.ThoughtriggeringaShiftpatternfrommultiplekeyscanbeused
creatively,it
canalsomakeithardtopredictwhattheoutputwillbe.
Youcanedittheincludedpatternsbypressing“Edit”withapatternhighlightedintheShiftPatt
field(seeeditscreenbelow.)Thetoplineofthe“EditShiftPatt”pageshowsthefullnamefora
pattern
whosenamedoesnotfitontheARPEGGIATORpage.Thispagealsodisplaysthe
pattern’s totalnumberofsteps,aswellaspatterndirection.PressingStep‐removesthelaststep
inthelist,pressingStep+insertsanewnotestepattheendofthelist(thepatterneditor
remembersthe
valuesofremovedstepsuntilyousaveorexit.)Usethecursortomovebetween
patternsteps,usethealphawheel,alphanumericpad,orplus/minusbuttonstoenterthenote
shiftamountforeachstep.PressMoretoseeasecondpageforpatternswithmorethan24steps.
You
caninsertastepwithavalueof“none”byentering‐127andthenshiftingdownonemore
step.Astepwiththevalue“none”causesthearpeggiatortoplaynothingforthatstep,allowing
youtocreaterhythmicpatternsbyusing“none”toleavespaces.Whenthearpeggiator
determinesthe
rangeofpatternnotesplayedwiththeLimitparameter(seebelow,)stepswitha
valueof“none”willbecalculatedasastepvalueof0.
Usethechanup/downbuttonstochangethedirectioninwhichpatternstepsareplayed
(indicatedby Up,Down,orFlatonthe
rightofthetopline.)WithpatterndirectionsettoUp,
thepatternplaysasexpected,startingatsteponeandmovingupthrougheachsteptowards
step48.WithpatterndirectionsettoDown,thepatternstartsatstepone,butthenmovestothe
laststepandcontinues
tomovebackwardsthroughthestepsdowntowardsstep1.
Additionally,patternssettoDownbaseallnotesaftersteponeintheoctavebelowthefirstnote
played.Thesesettingsaremostusefulforarpeggiatingchordpatternsupwardsordownwards
fromtherootnote.PatternssettoFlatwill
notrepeatinotheroctaveslikethosesettoUpor
Down(dependingontheLimitparameter.)PatternssettoFlatplaywithouttransposition,the
Limitparameterwillnottransposethepatternbutitcanstillrestrictnoterange.
