Continuous Controller Parameters
Thecontinuous(physical)controllersarethosethat havearangeofvalues:thetwowheels,the
optionalribboncontroller,theninesliders,thetwoContinuousControlpedals,theoptional
breathcontroller(thejackofwhichisconnectedtoCCpedal2),andmonopressure(aftertouch).
Asthetableonpage 720
shows,allof themusethesameparameters.Eachparametersfunction
isdescribedbelow.

UsethisparametertoselectadestinationfromtheMIDIControllerDestinationlist(see
page 721).
Scale
Afteryou’veselectedacontinuousphysicalcontroller,youcanmodifythecontrollersresponse
similarlytothewaysyoucanmodify
velocityresponse.Refertothegraphsbeginningon
page 711forillustrationsofthevelocityscalingparameters.
Scaleletsyouamplifyordiminishtheactionofthecontroller.Fullscaleis100%.Highervalues
willmakethecontrollermoresensitive,andlowervalueswillmakeitlessso.Settingthescale
to
anegativenumbermakesthecontrolleractionworkinreverse.Aswithvelocity,youcanusea
controllertocrossfadebetweentwozonesbysettingthescalingforonezonepositiveandthe
othernegative.Maximumscalevaluesare+300%and300%.
Add
Thisaddsorsubtractsaconstantto
thecontroller,andatthesametimesets minimumor
maximumvalues(there’snoneedforseparateMaxandMinparameters).IfAddis25,the
minimumvalueofthecontrollerwillbe25.Ifitis25(andscaleis100%)thefirstonefifthofthe
controllers
movement(25/127Ý1/5)willsendvalueof0,andthemaximumvalueofthe
controllerwillbe102(=12725).Aswithvelocity,Scaleisaproportionalchangetothecontroller,
whileOffsetisalinearchange.ThevaluesforOffsetrangefrom128to127.
Curv
This
letsyoutaperthecontrollerresponse.ThedefaultsettingisLinear,whichmeansthatthe
responsefollowsastraightlineasyoumovethecontroller.
SettingCurvtoExpandproducesacurvethatislesssteepthanthelinearcurveatkeystrike
velocitiesbelow64,andsteeperthanthelinearcurve
atkeystrikevelocitiesabove64.Inother
words,whenyou’replayingsoftly,you’llnoticevelocitydifferenceslessthanwithalinear
curve,whilewhenyou’ replayinghard,you’llnoticevelocitydifferencesmore.
SettingCurvtoCompressproducesavelocitycurvethatistheoppositeoftheexpanded
curve—thatis,you’llnotice
velocitydifferencesmorewhenyou’ replayingsoftlythanwhen
youreplayinghard.
Youcanalsocreate“reverse”versionsofthethreedescribedcurves.First,selectyourdesired
curve.ThensettheScaleparameterto100%,andsettheAddparameterto127.Thismakesthe
selectedcontrollersenda
valueof127whenallthewaydownandavalueof0whenalltheway
up.
