SyncSawconsistsoftwosawwaves,onethatyouhear(theslave)andonetha tcontrolstheslave
(themaster.)Thisoscillator’sdistinctiveparameterisSyncOff,whichcontrolstheoffsetofthe
slaveandmasterwaves.WithSyncOffsetto0,themasterhasnoeffectonthe
slave.Whenan
offsetisset,theslaverestartsitswavecycleeverytimethemasterwavecompletesacycle.
Offsetscausetheslavetorestartitscycleinthemiddleofnormalsawtoothcycles,whichcauses
theslave’swaveformshapeandsou ndtobealtered.
SUPERSAW
TheSuperSawoscillator
consistsoftwosawwaves.Thisoscillator’sdistinctiveparameteris
Detune,whichhassettingsfrom0‐50cents,allowingyoutodetunebothofthesawwavesbyup
to50centsawayfromtherootpitchofthekeyplayed.Detuneaffectsboth sawwaves,oneis
detunedabove
theoriginalrootpitch,andtheotherisdetunedbelowtheoriginalrootpitch.
TRIPLESAW
TheTripleSawoscillatorconsistsofthreesawwaves.Thisoscillator’sdistinctiveparameteris
Detune,whichhassettingsfrom0‐50cents,allowingyoutodetunetwoofthesawwavesbyup
to50cents
awayfromtherootpitchofthekeyplayed.Detuneaffectstwoofthesawwaves,one
isdetunedabovetheoriginalrootpitch,andtheotherisdetunedbelowtheoriginalrootpitch.
ThethirdsawwavealwaysplaystherootpitchandisnotaffectedbyDetune.

KeymapsareimportantinlayersusingKVAoscillators, eventhoughtheirsamplesarenot
usuallyheardintheselayers(seethenotebelowforexceptions.)Keymapselectionisimportant
becausethemaximumamplitudeset
foreachkeyinthekeymapisappliedtotheoscillator.For
mostusesofKVAoscillators,userswillwanttousethe999Silencekeymapbecauseeachkeyin
thekeymapissettothe samemaximum amplitude,unlikemanyinstrumentkeymaps.The999
Silencekeymapensuresuniformamplitude
behaviorofanoscillator,andwiththeamplitude
envelopesettousermode,userscaneasilyshapeallaspectsofanoscillator’samplitude.The
PC3Kalsohastheabilitytoapplynaturalamplitudeenvelopestooscillators.Withanamplitude
envelopesettonaturalmode,eachoscillatornotetakesontheamplitude
qualitiesofeach
sampleinakeymap(witheachnoterelativetosamplekeyplacement.)Eachsampleina
keymaphasanaturalenvelopethatwascreatedduringit’soriginaldevelopmentprocess.
Naturalenvelopeshavemuchmoredetailthanwhatispossibletocreatewiththeuser
amplitudeenvelope,and
theyareusefulwhentryingtomimicspecificinstrumentamplitude
envelopes.Whenusingthis technique,rememberthatthemaximumamplitudeofeachkeyis
setbythecurrentkeymap.Youcanstillcontroltheoverallparametersofanaturalenvelopeby

examplesofKVAlayersthatusethistechnique.Eachprogramusespercussionkeymapswith
naturalenvelopestoproduceafast,percussiveattack.AlsonotethatwhenusingaKVA
oscillatorandakeymapotherthan999Silence,thelayerwillusethenameofthekeymapin
the
infoboxonthemainProgrampage,eventhoughitisnotthetruesoundsourceofthelayer.
Note:Thesamplesfromakeymaparenotheardwhenusinganoscillator,unlessanalgorithmisusedto
routethekeymapsignalaroundtheoscillatorandintoaMIXfunction
block,orunlessitisanoscillator
thatprocessesitsaudioinput.
