Introduction Thank you for purchasing the Korg KAOSSILATOR PRO+ dynamic phrase synthesizer / loop recorder. To enjoy the KAOSSILATOR PRO+ to the fullest potential, please read this manual carefully and use the KAOSSILATOR PRO+ only as directed.
Getting ready Connections AC AC ADAPTER CD PLAYER MIXER, DJ MIXER Connecting your monitor amp or mixer to the output jacks Connect the KAOSSILATOR PRO+’s LINE OUT jacks to your mixer or powered monitors (amplified speakers). If you’re using headphones, connect them to the PHONES jack. TIP: The KAOSSILATOR PRO+’s sound will still be output from the LINE OUT jacks even if headphones are connected.
Operation Using the power switch 1. Connect the KAOSSILATOR PRO+ to your other equipment as shown in the diagrams on the preceding pages, and connect the AC adapter to an electrical outlet. Never use any AC adapter other than the one that’s included. 2. Press the Power button to turn the KAOSSILATOR PRO+ on. The display will light up. To turn the KAOSSILATOR PRO+ off, press and hold down the Power button until the display indicators turn off. off.
Touch pad care Never press the touch pad with excessive force, or place heavy objects on it. It may crack or break if handled roughly. Press the touch pad only with your finger, since rubbing or pressing the touch pad with a sharp object will scratch it. To clean the touch pad, wipe it lightly with a soft dry cloth. Do not use solvents such as thinner, since this may cause deformation.
Specifying the scale GATE TIME: The slider will specify the duration of the sound as a percentage. Setting the GATE TIME to (100%) will produce legato playing. Setting this to (0%) will mute the sound; there will be no sound even if you use the touch pad. TIP: If you change the GATE ARP switch to SPEED when this parameter is set to legato or stopped, the legato or muted state will be cancelled.
TIP: Depending on the key and note range settings, you might not hear sound, or noise might be heard. BPM value will appear in the display, and that BPM value will be set. TIP: The note range for FULL will depend on the program. TIP: You can’t use Tap Tempo if the KAOSSILATOR PRO+ is synchronized to MIDI timing clock data that’s received from an external MIDI device. TIP: Shortly after you’ve selected this setting, the display will automatically return to indicating the program number.

Doing so may corrupt the data. Recalling 1. Press one of the PROGRAM MEMORY buttons (1–8); the settings stored in that memory location will be recalled. TIP: You can change the content that is recalled when you press a PROGRAM MEMORY button (→p.14).
Specifying the length of the phrase to be recorded 1. Hold down the SHIFT button and press one of the LOOP RECORDER BANK buttons. 2. Press the LOOP RECORDER BANK button whose phrase length you want to change. The selected LOOP RECORDER BANK button will blink red. TIP: If you want to cancel your selection, press the same LOOP RECORDER BANK button once again. 3. Turn the PROGRAM/BPM knob to specify the desired phrase length. The phrase length is specified as a number of quarter notes. 4.
The maximum length of a phrase depends on the BPM you specified. Therefore, changing the BPM value during loop recording could cause an overdubbed phrase to be truncated, or a silent part to be appended to the end of a phrase. Also, changing the BPM value in the following situations will affect the phrase recording: • You changed the BPM value and recorded BEFORE the top of the phrase was located. • After recording, but BEFORE the top of the phrase was located, you changed the BPM value.
Function settings These settings let you format an SD card, and save or load your loop-recorded data. TIP: The program’s sound will not be heard while you’re adjusting Function settings. Procedure for Function settings 1. Hold down the SHIFT button and press one of the PROGRAM MEMORY buttons 1–8. 2. Use the PROGRAM/BPM knob to select a sub-parameter. 3. Press the PROGRAM/BPM knob to view the value options for that parameter. 4. Use the PROGRAM/BPM knob to select a value. 5.
“PrNo.” Only the program will be loaded. “ALL.P” All stored settings (program, scale, key, note range) will be loaded. CrCt: Turns the Touch Pad Correction function on/off. SYNC: Specifies whether the loop recorder will synchronize to BPM. If this is on, the recorder will synchronize to BPM, but the sound may be interrupted at the beginning of the phrase. If this is off, the recorder will not synchronize to BPM, but there will be no interruption of the sound.
Using an SD card You can use an SD card to save or load internal data. Audio files (WAVE format or AIFF format) that you’ve created on your computer can also be loaded. Never turn off the power or remove the SD card while data is being saved or the card is being formatted. Doing so may render the SD card unusable. TIP The SD card is not included. It must be purchased separately. TIP The KAOSSILATOR PRO+ supports SD cards of up to 2GB capacity and SDHC cards of up to 32GB capacity.
Inserting or removing SD cards Inserting an SD card Taking care that the SD card is oriented correctly, push into the slot until it locks into place with a click. Insert the card, making sure that it is oriented correctly. The gold contacts should be facing down, and the angled corner to your right. Saving to SD card Loading from an SD card Here’s how you can save the loop recorder data, program memories, and all settings onto an SD card. 1. Hold down the SHIFT button and press the PROGRAM MEMORY 3 (SAVE) button. 2. Use the PROGRAM/BPM knob to select the type of data that you want to save. Here’s how you can load data from an SD card. 1. Hold down the SHIFT button and press the PROGRAM MEMORY 2 (LOAD) button. 2. Use the PROGRAM/BPM knob to select the type of data that you want to load.
Accessing the SD card from your computer The KAOSSILATOR PRO+ has a USB connector that can be connected to your computer, allowing you to copy settings or loop recorder data from the SD card to your computer for saving (backup). If you press the SHIFT button while in USB mode, you'll return to the program display. Never press the SHIFT button while communication is taking place. Doing so may render the SD card unusable.
MIDI functions What is MIDI? MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, and is a world-wide standard for exchanging a variety of performance-related information between electronic musical instruments and computers. About the MIDI implementation chart The MIDI implementation chart is designed to let you compare the MIDI messages that can be transmitted and received by a device.
Setting the MIDI channel Here’s how to set the KAOSSILATOR PRO+’s MIDI channel. 1. Hold down the SHIFT button and press PROGRAM MEMORY 4 (MIDI). 2. Use the PROGRAM/BPM knob to select “MSSG,” and then press the PROGRAM/BPM knob. Afin de pouvoir exploiter au mieux toutes les fonctions du KAOSSILATOR PRO+, veuillez lire attentivement ce manuel et utiliser l’instrument de la manière préconisée.

Fonctionnement Interrupteur d’alimentation 1. Branchez le KAOSSILATOR PRO+ à votre matériel en vous référant aux illustrations des pages précédentes puis branchez l’adaptateur secteur à une prise de courant. N’utilisez jamais d’autre adaptateur secteur que l’adaptateur fourni. 2. Appuyez sur l’interrupteur d’alimentation pour mettre le KAOSSILATOR PRO+ sous tension. L’écran s’allume.
Précautions liées au pad tactile N’exercez jamais de force excessive sur le pad tactile et évitez d’y déposer des objets lourds. Il risque de se fêler ou de se casser en cas de maniement brutal. Jouez uniquement avec le doigt sur le pad tactile: si vous le frottez ou appuyez dessus avec un objet acéré, vous risquez de le griffer. Nettoyez le pad tactile en le frottant délicatement avec un chiffon sec et doux. N’utilisez pas de solvants comme de la térébenthine car cela peut entraîner des déformations.

Enregistrement en boucle Vous pouvez créer une phrase par enregistrements successifs avec différents sons ou signaux audio externes. Chacune des 4 banques peut accueillir une phrase comptant jusqu’à 4 mesures. ASTUCE: Les phrases enregistrées sont perdues à la mise hors tension. Pour conserver vos phrases, sauvegardez-les sur carte SD (→p. 40 ) avant de couper l’alimentation. Vous pouvez aussi les sauvegarder avec “KAOSSILATOR PRO+ Editor”.

La longueur maximum est de 16 temps si le réglage BPM est égal ou supérieur à 108,5, de 8 temps si le réglage BPM est inférieur à 108,5, de 4 temps si le réglage BPM est inférieur à 54,3 et de 2 temps si le réglage BPM est inférieur à 27,2.
Pour éviter que votre boucle n’affiche des changements inattendus de vitesse d’enregistrement ou de durée d’enregistrement suite à un changement de la valeur BPM, attendez que la reproduction revienne au début de la phrase pour lancer l’enregistrement. De plus, ne changez pas la valeur BPM après un enregistrement tant que la reproduction n’est pas revenue au début de la phrase. ASTUCE: Pour effacer une phrase dès le début, arrêtez la reproduction de toutes les phrases.
Réglages de fonctions Ces réglages vous permettent de formater une carte SD et de sauvegarder ou charger vos boucles. ASTUCE: Durant les réglages de fonctions, le programme sélectionné est inaudible. Réglage des fonctions 1. Appuyez sur une des boutons PROGRAM MEMORY 1~8, tout en maintenant la bouton SHIFT enfoncée. 2. Utilisez le commande PROGRAM/BPM pour sélectionner un sous-paramètre. 3. Appuyez sur le commande PROGRAM/BPM pour afficher les valeurs disponibles pour ce paramètre. 4.
Tous les réglages sauvegardés dans la “ALL.P” mémoire (“Program”, “Scale”, “Key”, “Note Range”) sont chargés. CrCt: Active/coupe la correction du pad tactile. SYNC: Détermine si l’enregistreur de boucle est synchronisé avec la valeur BPM. Si cette fonction est activée, l’enregistreur de boucle est synchronisé avec la valeur BPM mais le son peut être interrompu au début de la phrase.
Utilisation d’une carte SD Vous pouvez utiliser une carte SD pour sauvegarder ou charger des données internes. Les fichiers audio (de format WAVE ou AIFF) créés sur ordinateur peuvent également être chargés. A propos du contenu de la carte Les fichiers et dossiers suivants seront créés dans le répertoire racine de la carte. Insérez la carte en vérifiant qu’elle est correctement orientée. Les contacts en or doivent être orientés vers le bas et le coin “écorné” se situer à votre droite. Réglage du canal MIDI Voici comment régler le canal MIDI du KAOSSILATOR PRO+. 1. Maintenez le bouton SHIFT enfoncé et appuyez sur le bouton PROGRAM MEMORY 4 (MIDI). 2. Optez pour ce réglage si vous voulez utiliser le KAOSSILATOR PRO+ seul ou comme dispositif maître pour piloter des dispositifs MIDI externes. Le KAOSSILATOR PRO+ se synchro(Ext): nise sur le signal d’horloge MIDI venant d’un appareil externe branché à la prise MIDI IN ou USB.

Vorbereitungen Anschlüsse Steckdose Netzteil CD-Player Mischpult, DJ-Mixer Anschließen eines Verstärkers, Mischpults usw. an die Ausgänge Verbinden Sie die LINE OUT-Buchsen des KAOSSILATOR PRO+ mit den Eingängen eines Mischpults oder mit Ihren Aktivboxen (d.h. Bedienung Einstellen der Lautstärke Verwendung des Netzschalters 1. Stellen Sie mit dem PROGRAM VOLUME-Regler die Lautstärke des Programs ein. 2. Stellen Sie mit dem PHONES VOLUME-Regler bei Bedarf den Kopfhörerpegel ein. 1. Schließen Sie das KAOSSILATOR PRO+ wie auf den vorangehenden Seiten gezeigt an und verbinden Sie sein Netzteil mit einer Steckdose. TIPP: Die Lautstärke der an LINE OUT anliegenden Signale wird vom PHONES VOLUME-Regler nicht beeinflusst.
Pflege des Touch-Pads Drücken Sie niemals mit Gewalt auf das Pad und stellen Sie keine schweren Gegenstände darauf. Bei einer all zu forschen Handhabung wird es beschädigt. Bedienen Sie das Pad nur mit den Fingern, weil andere Gegenstände es verkratzen könnten. Verwenden Sie zum Reinigen des Pads ein weiches trockenes Tuch. Benutzen Sie niemals Lösungsmittel wie Verdünner, weil das zu Verformungen führt.

Manuelles Festlegen der Taktzahl (BPM) 1. Wenn das Display das aktuelle Programm zeigt, drücken Sie den PROGRAM/BPM-Regler zum Umschalten auf BPM-Anzeige. 2. Stellen Sie mit dem PROGRAM/BPM-Regler den BPM-Wert in Schritten von 0, 1 ein. Durch Drehen des PROGRAM/BPM-Regler bei gleichzeitigem Gedrückthalten der SHIFT-Taster können Sie den Integer-Teil des Werts in Schritten von 1 einstellen.
Aufnahme Aufnahme des Program-Sounds und externer Signale 1. Drücken Sie den REC-Taster. Wenn Sie den Taster drücken, beginnen der LOOP RECORDER BANK- und REC-Taster zu blinken. Das KAOSSILATOR PRO+ ist jetzt bereit für die Aufnahme. 2. Drücken Sie die LOOP RECORDER BANK-Taster des Speichers, der Ihre Aufnahme enthalten soll.
