5. Press the MENU (Rec Control ) button or the
AUDIO REC (play/pause) button to start
recording. (AUDIO REC (play/pause) button: lit
red)
Note: The procedure here is for when Auto (Auto Rec
Start) is Off. As an alternative to the Rec Control button,
you can also initiate recording in other ways, such as by
playing the keyboard. (see “Specifying how recording
will start” on page 104)
6. Perform on the keyboard; the sound of the KROSS
will be recorded. You can also record the performance
of the Drum Track, the arpeggiator, and the step
sequencer.
Note: Even if you close the setup window, the recording
or standby condition of the recorder will be maintained.
7. To stop recording, press the PAGE+ (Stop/Reset )
button (AUDIO REC (play/pause) button:
unlit). When you stop, you’ll automatically return to
the time location where you started recording.
If you press the PAGE+ (Stop/Reset ) button while
stopped, you’ll return to the beginning of the audio
song.
If you press the AUDIO REC (play/pause)
button during recording, you’ll pause in the record-
standby state (AUDIO REC (play/pause)
button: blinking red).
If you press the MENU (Rec Control ) button during
recording, recording will end, playback will continue,
and the location will advance. To resume recording, press
the MENU (Rec Control ) button or the AUDIO REC
(play/pause) button.
Recording external audio input
If you want to record the sound of an external audio
inputsource, proceed as follows.
As an example, we will explain how to record from a mic.
1. Select a mic program.
Recording from a mic will be easy if you use a
programwhose input and effect settings have been set
upappropriately for a mic.
2. In the REALTIME CONTROLS section, use the
SELECT button to select AUDIO IN 1; then turn off
the SWITCH (ON/OFF) button, and turn the
VOLUME knob all the way to the left to lower the
volume.
Then connect a dynamic mic to the rear panel mic input
(MIC IN) jack.
You must turn the SWITCH (ON/OFF) button off and
use the VOLUME knob to minimize the volume before
you connect a mic or any other device. If you fail to
observe this precaution, your speaker system or other
equipment might be damaged.
Note: Also use the MIC IN jack if you’re connecting an
electric guitar. If you’re connecting a guitar equipped with
passive pickups, we recommend that you connect a preamp
or effect unit between your guitar and the KROSS.
3. In REALTIME CONTROLS, press the SWITCH
(ON/OFF) button to turn it on (lit). The mic input will
be enabled. Turn the VOLUME knob back toward its
original position to adjust the volume appropriately,
and play the keyboard or play back the audio
recorder while you input audio from the mic to check
the volume balance. If you want to adjust the mic
volume, use the SWITCH (ON/OFF) button to enable
the mic input, and then press FUNCTION
button?(QUICK SETTING) to open AUDIO IN-
QUICK SETTING-, and adjust the GAIN value.
Note: You can also adjust GAIN in the AUDIO IN 1 row
of the REALTIME CONTROLS section.
Note: Ideally, the level meter should be moving in
approximately 70% of its full range. If the input is
overloaded, the [MIC] indicator will be highlighted.
When you’ve finished adjusting the volume, save the
setting. (see “Global audio input settings (G-SET) and
individual settings” on page 22)
4. Specify the Direct Send setting. In this example, we
will mix and record the KROSS's performance, so
turn the setting off.
5. Adjust effect settings.
In the mic program, the Reverb Hall effect etc., which
applies reverberation to your vocal is assigned to Master
FX. If you want to turn off the effect, turn the MASTER
FX button off. To turn the effect off, use the SELECT
button to select the EFFECT row of REALTIME
CONTROLS, and turn off the SWITCH (MASTER FX)
button.
Use AUDIO IN1 - MFX/REVERB to set the amount of
effect. In REALTIME CONTROLS, use the SELECT
