Quick Layer and Quick Split buttons
3. Under Select Split Mode, press the Main / Upper
button.
This assigns the Split Program to the right-hand (upper) side
of the keyboard, and the Main Combination—in this case,
the piano—to the left-hand (lower) side.
Alternatively, you could press the Lower / Main button to
assign the Split Program to the left-hand (lower) side of the
keyboard—useful for bass sounds. For this example, let’s
stick with Main /Upper.
4. Press the Category Select Popup in the UPPER PROG
section.
5. Choose the Lead Synth category, select the Program I-
D077: Ana Brass/Lead, and press OK.
You can also select Programs by bank and number, or by
using Find. For more information, see “Selecting by bank
and number” on page 32, “Selecting by Category” on
page 33, and “Using the Find feature” on page 33.
When you play the keyboard, the lower region plays the
original piano sound, and the upper region plays a synth
lead. The lead will sound close to the way that it does in
Program mode, including its insert effects (IFX), but it will
now use the Master and Total Effects (MFX and TFX) of the
piano Combination. For more information, see “Limitations
of Quick Layer/Split” on page 73.
If you like, you can also select a different main Combination,
using the controls in the MAIN COMBI section.
6. Press and hold the ENTER button, and play a note on
the keyboard to set the split point.
The split point sets the lowest key of the Upper range; the
default is C4.
You can also edit the Split Point by holding the ENTER
button and then touching the keyboard graphic.
7. Adjust the Volume and Octave of the Main
Combination and Split Program as desired.
8. Enable or disable the “Use KARMA” check-boxes for
the Main Combination and the Layer Program, as
desired.
By default, the Main Combination’s KARMA settings are
used; you can disable them if you prefer. You can also use
the Split Program’s KARMA settings, either alone or in
conjunction with those of the Main Combination.
KARMAs effects remain separate between the Main
Combination and the Split Program, even after they are
combined into the new layered sound; the KARMA settings
of one will not affect the other. For example, the strings and
piano could each play different KARMA phrases.
Note: If the Main Combination’s Use KARMA check-box is
enabled, one or more KARMA Modules may already be in
use. The Split Program’s settings are automatically copied
into an unused KARMA Module, if one is available. If the
Main Combination had already used all four KARMA
Modules, the Program’s settings are copied into Module D,
replacing whatever was there pr
e
viously. If this occurs, the
main Combination may not sound exactly the same.
9. Under “Select Drum Track,” choose to use the Drum
Track from either the Main Combination or the Split
Program, and adjust the volume as desired.
The Tempo is initially set to match the selected Drum Track;
you can then change it as desired. Note that you can't use
both Drum Tracks simultaneously.
10.When you've finished editing, press the Write
Combination button to save the new sound.
For more details, see “Writing the results” on page 73, and
“Writing Programs and Combinations” on page 200.
