GENERAL 1 General Information 1.1 Introduction Thank you for choosing this Minoltafax 1800 and showing confidence in our product. This machine has a modern design and fulfils today's requirements of a fax machine. It combines advanced technology with a harmonious design. The machine is authorised for use in the public telephone network and is compatible to other fax machines of the communication standard 3.
GENERAL 1.2 How Does a Fax Machine Work? A fax machine can be connected to a normal telephone system without taking any special precautions, just like a normal telephone set. The function of a fax machine is quite similar to that of a telephone. The way a fax machine works is simple: documents that are to be transmitted are "read" by the take-up unit, the so called scanner. The machine does not recognise the letters but reads the picture, dot by dot, and marks each dot as black or white.
GENERAL 1.3 Safety Precautions • Connect the machine only to a 200 - 240 V/ 50 Hz earthed power point which complys with the VDE standards. Try to avoid the use of multiple power points. • Make sure the power is not turned off over night. • Always pull at the plug, never at the wire, when you want disconnect the machine from the power supply. • To facilitate communication always keep the machine switched on and program the correct user data.
GENERAL 1.4 User Instructions (For U.K. Users) These facsimiles are approved for connection to the British Telecom public switched telecommunication systems in accordance with the British telecommunication Act of 1984. The usage should be subject to the conditions set out in these instructions. Any other usage will INVALIDATE this approval. 1.
GENERAL the DTMF signalling is subject to regulatory requirements for correct operation. It is therefore strongly recommended that the facsimile is set to use DTMF signalling for access to public or private emergency services if it is used with a hand-set. DTMF signalling also provides faster call set up. 7. Ringer Equivalent Number (REN) for the facsimile is 1. The REN relates to the performance of the facsimile when used in parallel with other items of terminal equipment.
GENERAL 13. It may be necessary to insert a pause in the autodial sequence when sending transmissions overseas in order that the international exchanges have time to interconnect. For example, you may require a sequence of 010 "PAUSE" 1555677899 to transmit a fax message to your New York office. To insert a pause, press the "PAUSE" key. One key operation causes a pause of 4 seconds in the dialling sequence. 1.4.
GENERAL 1.5 Ozone Release Warning During printer operation, a small quantity of ozone is released. This amount is not large enough to harm anyone adversely. However, be sure the room where the fax machine is being used has adequate ventilation, especially if you are printing a high volume of material or if the fax machine is being used continuously over a long period. 1.6 Features Your new fax machine is a compact multi-functional device facilitating your work and reducing your fax communication times.
GENERAL 1.6.3 Functions • Sequential broadcasting • 24 hours delay sending • page memory (basic model 256 KB, optional memory 1 MB) that can be added • Multi tasking operation interface • Polling RX / TX • Copy function 1.6.

SENDING 4 4.1 4.1.1 Sending Transmission Notes on Original Documents Your fax machine can send the following sizes of paper. The automatic document feeder has a capacity of 20 sheets. If the feeding length exceeds 1000 mm the Minoltafax recognises a document jam and interrupts the reading process. Use yellow, yellow-green or light blue colours for information you do not want to be transmitted. Make sure ink, glue, Tipp-Ex© and other similar substances are completely dry before the transmission.
SENDING 4.1.2 Placing the Documents Place the document face down on the document feeder. Centre the document and adjust the paper guides so that they lightly touch the edges of the document. You can place up to 20 sheets in the document feeder. Make sure the documents are well placed and aligned before starting the transmission. If the paper is curled or the sheets stick to each other, several pages may be drawn in together. This can lead to document jams and faulty transmissions.
SENDING 4.1.3 Contrast (Type Org.) / Resolution Place the document in the document feeder. NORMAL SELECT STD LOC/COPY Press [TYPE ORG. ←] or [RESOLUTION →]. If you send documents with normal print or typed documents, no adjustments are necessary. To change the quality of the transmission press the [TYPE ORG. ←] and [RESOLUTION →] keys. [TYPE ORG. ←] allows three adjustments: NORMAL The document is transmitted as normal print. DARK Documents that are too light are transmitted darker.
SENDING 4.2 Dialling Method The Minoltafax offers four different dialling methods. Place the document face down in the feeder and dial using the desired procedure. 4.2.1 Manual Dial Using the Numeric Keypad Enter the telephone number using the numeric keypad and press [START]. The display shows the number for confirmation. To delete the number press [STOP] or correct individual digits using the arrow keys. You can enter up to 40 digits for a telephone number. 4.2.

SENDING 4.3 4.3.1 Transmission Methods Memory Sending Sending a Document from Memory Sending documents from memory is the standard pre-set transmission method. You should use the "direct transmission" only in special cases, e.g. if there is not enough capacity in memory.
SENDING If the corresponding user software switch is "on" the machine prints a memory entry report. (Cf. chapter "Entering Data", section "Program User Soft Switches".) . If the memory runs out of capacity during scanning, the complete document will be deleted from memory. In this case, wait until enough capacity is freed to hold the complete document. If this is not possible send the document with the direct transmission method.
SENDING 4.3.2 Direct Transmission You may also send documents directly from the document feeder, if your memory does not have enough capacity to scan the complete document you want to send. Description 1 Place the document in the feeder and adjust the resolution and contrast, if necessary. Display NORMAL STD SELECT LOC/COPY 2 Press [FUNCTION] and [3] to select direct transmission DIRECT SEND 3 Press [ENTER]. DIRECT SEND 0-9,*,#,← , ENTER.
SENDING 4.3.3 Relay Transmission Entering Relay Transmission This function allows to use your Minoltafax as a base station. You can send one document to one or several fax machines, that in turn send your document to several other stations. If your company owns several machines of a similar type, you can build a tree-like distribution. If the distribution machine and the receiving stations are abroad, this method allows you to reach all stations, with only one international call.
SENDING With this function you send the document to one station and request that station to pass the document on to the telephone numbers that are programmed under the speed dial numbers of the receiving machine. You can also request the other station to send an activity report back to you. Example: . 50 The machines A and B must be compatible and both must have the function "relay transmission". The other machines (C,D,E etc.) may be of any other kind.
SENDING 4.3.4 Delay Transmission (Timer) This function serves to transmit documents at a programmed time, for example to a receiver in a different time zone, or to use a cheaper telephone line at a given time. The timer function is only available if the date and time of the machine have been set. Description Place the document face down in the document feeder. If necessary, adjust the resolution and the contrast. Press either [FUNCTION] or [2] and press [ENTER].
SENDING 4.3.5 Batch Transmission (Delay Transmission) With this function you can send several documents all together in a batch to one programmed telephone number. If one telephone number is defined as a batch transmission number all documents for this number will be sent in a single transmission. Description 1 Press [FUNCTION] and [8]. Display PROGRAM TEL. NO.. 0-9,*,#, ←, ENTER. 2 Press [ENTER] and [4]. BATCH TX 1-5, ←, → ENTER 3 Press [ENTER].
SENDING 4.3.6 Broadcast Your Minoltafax 1800 can send documents from the memory up to 71 programmed stations in the one-touch keys, in the speed dial numbers and in the group dial function with one single operation. The machine dials the number and sends the document to each number. If one of the numbers is busy, your fax machine will postpone that number until the end of the session and will try the transmission again.
SENDING 4.3.7 Memory Polling Transmission Your Minoltafax 1800 has the possibility to transmit documents automatically on request of a calling station. Place the document in the document feeder so the Minoltafax can scan it. You can scan up to 30 documents and assign an identification number to each one so that they can be polled from the memory specifically and individually. Besides this, each document is assigned a three digit identification number for internal identification.
SENDING To delete the document from memory enter [0] at step 2, press [MODE/CLEAR] and then [ENTER]. If there are several documents in the memory select the corresponding ID number by pressing [TYPE ORG. ←] or [RESOLUTION →] and then press [MODE/CLEAR]. 4.3.8 Polling Transmission This function is identical to the memory polling transmission, except from the fact that the transmission is done directly from the document feeder.
SENDING 4.3.9 Interrupting the Current Transmission Should it be necessary to interrupt the current transmission, simply press [STOP] and your Minoltafax 1800 stops the current operation and returns to standby mode. Description 1 Press [STOP]. If the operation had not begun when [STOP] was pressed the document is ejected. 2 3 4 . 56 Display CANCEL =0 If the operation had begun, the opposite display appears.
