General Information 1 General Information 1.1 Introduction 1 Thank you for choosing this Minoltafax 1600e and showing confidence in our product. This machine has a modern design and fulfils today's requirements of a fax machine. It combines advanced technology with a contemporary appearance. The machine is authorised for use in the public telephone network and is compatible to other fax machines of the communication standard 3.
General Information 1 1.2 How Does a Fax Machine Work? A fax machine can be connected to a normal telephone system without taking any special precautions, just like a normal telephone set. The function of a fax machine is quite similar to that of a telephone. The way a fax machine works is simple: Documents are at first scanned. This is done by the scanning unit. The machine does not recognise the letters but reads the picture, dot by dot, and marks each dot as black or white.
General Information 1.3 1 Certificate for Machines with CE Marking CTR 21 Approval Annex II The equipment has been approved in accordance with Council Decision 98/482/EC for pan-European single terminal connection to the public switched telephone network (PSTN). However, due to differences between the individual PSTNs provided in different countries, the approval does not, or itself, give an unconditional assurance of successful operation on every PSTN network termination point.

2 2.5 Installation The Toner Cartridge and the Drum Cartridge In this laser fax, characters and images are created through a process in which the drum cartridge applies toner to the page in the machine's developing section. The drum cartridge should be handled with care to ensure proper performance at all times. Be sure to avoid exposing the cartridge to direct sunlight or any other direct light.

Installation 2 Installing the Document Output Tray Insert the document output into the openings at the front of the machine. 2.7 Replace Rx Paper Your fax prints on plain paper of the following specifications: 60-90 g/m² . The paper cassette holds up to 250 sheets of A4-sized paper. A4, Letter, Legal (A4 is the standard size).If you want to use paper sizes, that are not standard, adjust the lateral paper guides according to the new paper size 1 Fan the paper well and align the sheets.

This chapter explains how to set your name, your line type and the remote locations with which you may wish to communicate. You can cancel the setting anytime by pressing STOP. The setting will then not be saved. If you do not press any key within 30 seconds your fax machine will return to stand-by mode. 3.

Dialling Mode Choose the dialling mode of your preference. Tone dialling (DTMF) dials the number by transmitting a combination of beeps. You might need it when your fax has to transmit a set of numbers which are coded as beeping noises, e.g.when you use the mailbox function.

Power Save Mode The power save mode reduces the machine's power consumption in stand-by mode. The temperature of the fusing roller is reduced until a page is ready for printing. Therefore printing is delayed for a couple of seconds. Default setting for the power save mode is ON.

In this mode data that may be lost due to poor line quality is sent repeatedly. This procedure reduces the number of errors considerably. You can place up to 20 sheets of paper in the A4-format in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). Sending Faxes 4 Combination Dial You can use this function to dial the pre-dial number you have stored in a one-touch key or as a speed dial number. Sending Faxes 4.4 4 Transmission Methods Memory Transmission Sending a Document from the Memory Select memory transmission as a default. You should send faxes in direct mode only exceptionally, e.g. if not enough memory is available. Since your fax machine is a multi-tasking device it is possible to scan documents while your Minoltafax is sending from memory, receiving or printing. As soon as the current operation is finished the new document will be sent. Memory transmission offers several advantages.
Sending Faxes 4 Direct Transmission You can send directly from the ADF, if not enough memory is available to scan all documents you want to transmit. Make sure you have switched off MEMORY before. Sending Faxes 4 Delayed Transmission You can use this function to take advantage of lower evening and weekend long-distance rates. You can only use this function if date and time are stored in the machine. Insert the document face down into the ADF. Adjust contrast and resolution if necessary. Sending Faxes 4 Broadcasting Your Minoltafax 1600e is capable of sending documents from the memory to up to 100 recipients dialling manually, by one-touch key, speed dial or group dial. The machine dials and transmits the document sequentially to each recipient. If one of the numbers is engaged, your fax machine will dial the next one and return to the engaged number in the end. After broadcasting it will print a report automatically and return to stand-by mode.
Sending Faxes 4 Polling Transmission You can use this function to transmit documents automatically. The recipient can retrieve the document on demand. The document can even consist of several pages. Insert the document into the ADF in order to scan it. The caller establishes the communication and must have the function polling reception turned on in his machine. Your Minoltafax offers you a single mode and a multiple mode. In single mode the document can only be polled once.
Sending Faxes 4 Mailbox Transmission Use this function to transmit a document to a mail box. This is helpful, if only a specific person may read the document. However, both machines must be the same model. The transmission is only executed, if both mailbox ID codes are identical. This prevents the document from being transmitted to a wrong mailbox. The document is scanned into the remote fax machine's memory and can only be printed if the recipient enters the correct 4 digit mailbox ID.
Sending Faxes 4 Password TX This function limits communication to those destinations that use the same password as you. However all destinations stored in the on-touch keys and the speed dial numbers can be reached. Reception 5 5 Reception 5.1 Manual Reception Manual reception of telephone call is only sensible, if you expect telephone calls at this extension. You should keep this in mind when you set the reception mode. Because the machine has no telephone receiver a separate phone must be attached to the same telephone wall outlet. Reception 5 5.2 Automatic Reception Automatic reception is set as a default. No further settings are required. Your fax machine will answer calls after a set number of rings. The Default setting is 1. Memory Reception Mode (Confidential Reception) When you use this function the message will be stored in the memory. Only if you switch off the memory reception mode or enter the correct pass code you can print the message.
