This fax machine is approved for use in public telephone networks and is compatible to other fax machines of transmission standard 3. This manual will enable you to achieve maximum results of your Minoltafax 1100 because it contains detailed information to the following subjects: l Safe operation of your fax machine. l Setting up your fax machine. l Sending and receiving faxes.

1 Introduction 1.3 Safe operation of your fax machine Instructions for personal and operational safety Personal injury, electrical shocks or even fires can result from incorrect operation. Before unpacking your fax machine, please read the following safety precautions to ensure your personal safety and also the operational safety of your fax machine. CAUTION Adhere to the following instructions! Connect the machine only to an earthed 220-240V/50-60Hz mains socket which complies to VDE standards.
1 Introduction Í Í Í Í Í Í Í Í Í 1-6 Do not interrupt the power supply while the machine is transmitting or printing. Do not place magnetic objects near the machine. Do not use inflammable aerosols, liquids or gases near the machine. Do not remove any safety devices, and do not alter the machine’s design. The machine is equipped with high-voltage components! Do not insert paper clips / tacks or small metal objects in any opening of the machine.
1 Introduction Approval symbol The Minoltafax 1100 fulfils the fax requirements according to CTR 21 and DTS. The machine bears the EMV symbol as proof that it complies to requirements of EN 50081-1 and EN 50082-1. Machines equipped with the "GS" emblem have design approval according to national and international standards. The noise level at the place of work is 75 dB (A) or less according to ISO 777.

2 Unpacking, installation, setup 2.2 Installing the fax machine Ambient requirements Optimum ambient requirements for the printer are: l Temperatures between 5°C and 35°C (Fluctuations max. 10°C per hour) l Humidity between 15% and 85% (Fluctuations max. 20% per hour). Location The installation location must fulfil the following requirements: l Dry and dust-free. l Level and vibration-free surface. l Away from easily inflammable objects, such as curtains.

The machine dimensions are: l Height: 264 mm l Width: 360 mm l Depth: 300 mm. Does the fax machine have enough space? Ensure that there is sufficient space in front of the fax machine, otherwise the ejected document or paper could become jammed.

2 Unpacking, installation, setup Installing the ink cartridge CAUTION Damage to ink cartridge! If handled incorrectly, the printing head on the ink cartridge can be damaged. The ink cartridge can then no longer be used. Í Í Í Í 1 Do not touch the printing head on the ink cartridge. Do not place the ink cartridge on its printing head. Do not dismantle the ink cartridge. Do not shake the ink cartridge. Fold the control panel forwards. The cartridge holder will move to central position.

The ink cartridge must engage with an audible click. 6 Close the control panel cover. The display will show NEW CARTRIDGE. ? Í 7 If NEW CARTRIDGE does not appear in the display? A test page will be printed out. 3 Determine which line segment on the test print is closest to being a straight line. 4 Enter the code of this line segment via the numerical keys. Confirm your choice by pressing the [SET] key.
2 Unpacking, installation, setup Inserting paper Insert up to 50 sheets of paper (75 g/m2) in the paper feeder. Use only good quality paper with the following qualities: á Paper formats: A4 (210 × 297 mm), Letter (216 × 279 mm), Legal size (216 × 356 mm). The default setting is A4. See page 8-1 for other settings. á á Paper thickness: less than 0,2 mm 1 Fold the paper support forwards. 2 Fan through the paper bundle before inserting it.

You should read these pages thoroughly and become familiar with your Minoltafax 1100 in order to be able to set the machine to your individual requirements. List of letters, symbols and digits Letters, symbols and digits can be entered via the numerical keys. All characters accessible by the numerical keys are listed in three groups. The table below shows how the characters are compiled.
3 Individual fax machine settings Entering letters and digits When it is possible to freely select a character, a black square containing the letter "A" will appear at the right end of the display. Enter a name via the numerical keys. Select the character group via the [DIRECTORY] arrow key. n A ❍ for capital letters for small letters for digits n a n 1 2 Press the respective control panel key in order to enter the required character; see page 3-1.
3 Individual fax machine settings Correcting an entered character If you enter a wrong character, it can be easily corrected as follows: 1 Press one-touch key [4 - CURSOR LEFT], to position the cursor on the character to be corrected. 2 Select the correct character or press the one-touch key [0 - DELETE] to delete the wrong character. 3 Individual fax machine settings Cancelling a procedure Press the [STOP] key to: G Cancel a started procedure (fax transmission, photocopy, etc.). G Leave a menu and return to the standard display. G Cancel a wrong entry. G To eject an inserted document. In order to carry out the above functions: ➜ Press the [STOP] key repeatedly when necessary. Setting the dialling method (MFV/IWV) The default dialling method is MF (tone) signalling.

The receiver will then know from which machine an incoming fax was transmitted. 1 Press the [MENU] key 6 times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Press the [MENU] key. The date and time will also appear in the header of every outgoing fax and generated report, as well as in the footer of every incoming fax. 1 Press the [MENU] key 6 times. You can then call this number with a single touch of the key. 1 Press the [MENU] key twice. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Press the one-touch key [0]-[9] under which you want to store a number. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 3 Enter the designation of the number (max. 16 characters). Confirm your choice via the [SET] key.
3 Individual fax machine settings Altering one-touch key allocation The allocation of a one-touch key can be easily altered, for example, when the number or name must be changed. 1 Press the [MENU] key twice. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Press the one-touch key [0]-[9] under which you want to store a number. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 3 Press the [SET] key. 4 Alter the designation of the number. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. See page 3-3. 5 Alter the number.

3 Individual fax machine settings 3.5 Setting up the directory The Minoltafax-Fax is equipped with an electronic directory in which up to 50 numbers can be stored. * Arrow keys [DIRECTORY] Search This directory enables: G Administration of up to 50 numbers. (new entries, alterations, deletion) G Printing a list of all entries in the directory. G Transferring directory entries to one-touch keys. G Automatic print-out of all dialled numbers.

Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Alter the designation of the number. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 3 Press the one-touch key [5 - CURSOR RIGHT]. When transferring, the directory entry will be automatically deleted from the directory. 1 Select the entry to be transferred to a one-touch key via the [DIRECTORY] arrow keys. 2 Press the [MENU] key. 3 Press the one-touch key [0]-[9] which should receive the transferred entry. 3 3.6 Individual fax machine settings Switching activity report on/off Switching on the activity report An automatic print-out of the activity report can be generated. You can choose between a daily print-out or an automatic print-out of the activity report after every respective 20 transmissions. 1 Press the [MENU] key six times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Press the [MENU] key three times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 3 Press the [MENU] key repeatedly until ACT.

4 Sending documents by fax 4.2 Inserting a document Place up to 20 sheets in the document feeder. Use only normal paper of good quality as follows: ✔ 1 Paper thickness: Single document Numerous documents 0,05 to 0,15 mm 0,08 to 0,13 mm (per document) Insert the document with its face downwards in the document feeder. The document will be automatically recognised and then pulled into the machine. 2 Adjust the right document guide according to the width of the document.
4 4.3 Sending documents by fax Setting the resolution and contrast The Minoltafax 1100 enables you to adjust the resolution and contrast in numerous stages. This will allow optimum transmission quality with an optimum transmission duration. Setting the resolution for present transmission The transmission resolution grade can be set as follows: 1 Insert the document into the document feeder and adjust the document guide accordingly. 2 Select the required transmission quality via the [RESOLUTION] key.
4 Sending documents by fax Permanently setting the transmission resolution The resolution of the Minoltafax 1100 in standby mode can be set via the software switches. 1 Press the [MENU] key six times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Press the [MENU] key twice. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 3 Press the numerical keys [2] and [7] for software switch 27. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key.

4 Sending documents by fax 4.4 Sending a document Dialling the number via the numerical keys The receiving fax machine can be dialled via the numerical keys. 1 Insert the document into the document feeder and adjust the document guide accordingly. 2 If required, select the required transmission quality via the [RESOLUTION] key. 3 Enter the number via the numerical keys.
4 Sending documents by fax Dialling a number via redial The last dialled number can be redialled via redial. 1 Insert the document into the document feeder and adjust the document guide accordingly. 2 If required, select the required transmission quality via the [RESOLUTION] key. 3 Press the [REDIAL/P] key. The fax transmission will start as soon as the receiving fax machine sends a signal that it is ready to receive. The number of the receiving fax machine will appear in the display.
4 Sending documents by fax Dialling a number via a one-touch key A number can be called via a one-touch key. 1 Insert the document into the document feeder and adjust the document guide accordingly. 2 If required, select the required transmission quality via the [RESOLUTION] key. 3 Press the respective one-touch key under which the required number is stored. The fax transmission will start as soon as the receiving fax machine sends a signal that it is ready to receive.
4 Sending documents by fax Dialling a number via the directory A number can be selected from the electronic directory for immediate dialling. 1 Insert the document into the document feeder and adjust the document guide accordingly. 2 If required, select the required transmission quality via the [RESOLUTION] key. 3 Select the required number via the [DIRECTORY] arrow keys. 4 Press the [START] key.
4 Sending documents by fax Dialling and number and monitoring a call It is possible to dial a number and monitor the fax transmission. 1 Insert the document into the document feeder and adjust the document guide accordingly. 2 If required, select the required transmission quality via the [RESOLUTION] key. 3 Pick up the handset or press the [MONITOR] key.

4 Sending documents by fax 4.5 Delayed document transmission Setting delayed document transmission The timer can be programmed to send a fax at a later time. 1 Insert the document into the document feeder and adjust the document guide accordingly. 2 If required, select the required transmission quality via the [RESOLUTION] key. 3 Press the [MENU] key three times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 4 Enter the required transmission start time via the numerical keys.

Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Press the [MENU] key once. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 3 Enter the new transmission time via the numerical keys. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key.
4 Sending documents by fax Deleting transmission delay time The timer for a delayed fax transmission can be deleted. 1 Press the [MENU] key three times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Press the [SET] key. CANCEL ? A beep will be heard. The transmission delay time has now been deleted. 3 3: TIMER Tx. ? 4 Sending documents by fax Automatic print-out of delayed transmission report It is possible to receive a printed report of a delayed transmission. This report will enable you to check whether the delayed transmission was successfully carried out. 1 Press the [MENU] key six times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Press the [MENU] key twice. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 3 Press the numerical keys [3] and [2] for software switch 32. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key.
4 Sending documents by fax 4.6 Sending a document overseas When a fax is sent over extremely long distances, the transmission quality can be impaired by interference in the telephone lines. Interference can be avoided by reducing the fax transmission speed. Reducing the fax transmission speed 1 Insert the document into the document feeder and adjust the document guide accordingly. 2 Press the [MENU] key. 3 Press the [#] key. STANDARD 1: POLLING Rx. 4800 BPS SET A beep will be heard.
4 4.7 Sending documents by fax Activating redial function If it is not possible to make a connection, the number will be automatically redialled after 3 minutes. It is also possible to manually activate the redial function. Setting the quantity of redial attempts Setting the quantity of automatic redial attempts if the receiving fax machine cannot be contacted. The default setting is "02 - redial 2 times". 1 Press the [MENU] key six times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key.

Switching to automatic fax receiving mode. ➜ Press the [AUTO/TAD/MAN] key repeatedly until E-MODE = AUTO appears in the display. Rx.MODE = AUTO The automatic fax receiving mode is now activated. Is the incoming call an automatic fax transmission? The Minoltafax 1100 will recognise the incoming signal and automatically start receiving the fax transmission.
5 5.2 Receiving faxes Receiving faxes manually Incoming fax transmissions will not be automatically accepted. Activating manual reception mode. ➜ Press the [AUTO/TAD/MAN] key repeatedly until E-MODE = MAN appears in the display. Rx.MODE = MANUAL The manual fax receiving mode is now activated. Is the incoming call a voice call? Pick up the handset and answer the call. If the caller wants to immediately send you a fax, press the [START] key to receive the fax transmission.
5 Receiving faxes 5.3 Combination with an answering machine The Minoltafax 1100 can be operated in connection with an answering machine. If an answering machine is connected to your fax machine, please observe the following: G The answering machine should be programmed so that it will accept an incoming call after 4 rings. G Convenient features of the answering machine (call monitoring, call recording, call counter, etc.
5 5.4 Receiving faxes Receiving selected faxes Incoming faxes will only be received if the sender number is programmed as a one-touch number in your fax machine and the station identification has been correctly programmed. The number of the calling machine is not a one-touch number? The incoming fax transmission will be automatically stopped as soon as RECEIVE appears in the display. The incoming fax does not have a station identification? The incoming call will be automatically stopped.
5 Receiving faxes 5.5 Memory reception during printer problem If the paper runs out, or the ink cartridge becomes empty, your Minoltafax 1100 will store the incoming transmission data. The memory reception can store up to 34 pages, depending on the original document. If memory reception has stored data, the LED for MEMORY RECEPTION will blink and the display will show the respective fault message, such as INK OUT. The received pages can be printed out from the incoming data store.
5 5.6 Receiving faxes Calling a fax transmission (Polling) A fax transmission can be called from another fax machine as long as the other machine has been programmed accordingly. 1 Press the [MENU] key. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 1: POLLING Rx. ? 2 Dial the number of the other fax machine: 1234 123456 ❍ ❍ ❍ ❍ 3 Manually Via one-touch key Via directory Via redial Press the [SET] key.
5 Receiving faxes 5.7 Receiving a fax with size reduction If a transmitted fax is longer than the size of your paper, your Minoltafax 1100 will normally print the incoming fax on two pages. You can prevent this by setting your fax machine to automatically print incoming faxes at a size reduction ratio of 90%, 84% or 70%. The default setting is 90%. Incoming faxes can be reduced in size so that they fit on one page of paper. 1 Press the [MENU] key six times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key.
5 5.8 Receiving faxes Fax machine with external telephone If you are operating your Minoltafax 1100 together with an external telephone apparatus and you answer a fax machine by phone, you must manually transfer this fax transmission to your fax machine. Transferring an incoming fax transmission from your external telephone to your fax machine. 1 2 Press the [3] key twice on your telephone. Place the telephone handset on the hook. Your fax machine will now accept the transmission.
6 Copying a document 6 Copying a document 6.1 Making a single copy It is possible to copy a document with the Minoltafax 1100. 1 Insert the document with its face downwards in the document feeder. STANDARD The display will show the present resolution setting. 2 If necessary, alter the resolution grade via the [RESOLUTION] key. 3 Press the [COPY] key. STANDARD COPY The copying function will start.
6 6.2 Copying a document Copying a document with size reduction Copying a document with a copy reduction factor of up to 70%. 1 Press the [MENU] five times. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. 2 Select the required reduction factor via the [MENU] key. Confirm your choice via the [SET] key. A beep will be heard. The reduction factor is now programmed. 5: REDUCTION ? REDUCTION OFF REDUCTION 90 % REDUCTION 84 % REDUCTION 70 % 3 Insert the document with its face downwards in the document feeder.

Is your fax machine connected to a PBX system? ➜ 3 Before dialling the required number, press the [R] key to call an outside line. When you hear a reply, pick up the handset and start your conversation. Method 2: 1 Pick up the handset.

Dialling a number via the redial function The last dialled number can be redialled by using the redial function. ➜ Press the [REDIAL/P] key.

MUSTER Press the [START] key to start the dialling function. Searching for a number in the directory A search function can be carried out in the directory to find a stored number. 1 Press the [SEARCH] key.
7 Using the telephone 7.4 Putting a call on hold It is possible to put a call on hold so that nothing can be heard at the opposite end. Method 1: 1 Press the [HOLD] key during the conversation. Please observe the following: G If you pick up the handset and place it back on the hook, the "operator call" feature will be cancelled. 8 Setting specific features 8.2 Switching on power save mode The power save mode will reduce the energy consumption of the Minoltafax 1100 in standby mode from approx. 5.7 W to approx. 1.7 W. The power save mode will activate itself if during the last 5 minutes: G A key has not been pressed G An incoming call has not been received G The handset of your fax machine or a connected telephone was not lifted off the hook. The display will show POWER SAVE.

9 Trouble-shooting Removing a paper jam Printer paper is jammed in the fax machine when the display shows CHECK PAPER. 1 Fold the paper cover forwards. 2 Pull the jammed paper slowly upwards out of the machine. 3 Close the paper cover. 4 Press the [PRINTER RESET] key. 9 Trouble-shooting Renewing the ink cartridge CAUTION Damage to ink cartridge! If handled incorrectly, the printer head on the ink cartridge can be damaged. The ink cartridge can then no longer be used. ➜ Do not touch the printer head on the ink cartridge. ➜ Do not place the ink cartridge on it printer head. ➜ Do not dismantle the ink cartridge. ➜ Do not shake the ink cartridge. 1 Fold the control panel forwards. The cartridge holder will move to central position. 2 Open the printer unit cover.
9 Trouble-shooting 4 Remove the protection strips from the new ink cartridge. 5 Insert the new ink cartridge in the cartridge holder. 6 Gently press the ink cartridge forwards. The ink cartridge must engage with an audible click. 7 Close the control panel cover. The display will show NEW CARTRIDGE. CARTRIDGE appears in ? IftheNOdisplay? ➜ 8 Check if the ink cartridge has correctly engaged in the cartridge holder. Confirm by pressing the [SET] key.

A test page will be printed out. 3 Determine which line segment on the test print is closest to being a straight line. 4 Enter the code of this line segment via the numerical keys. Confirm your choice by pressing the [SET] key.
9 Trouble-shooting Cleaning the printer head nozzles Clean the printer head nozzles if the print-out is no longer of optimum quality. 1 Press the [MENU] key seven times. Confirm your choice by pressing the [SET] key. 2 Press the [SET] key. 7: SET PRINTER ? 1: CLEAN NOZZLES ? A test page will be printed out. PRINTING 3 Compare the thin lines above and below the black strip. ? Are the line continuous? If yes, the printer head nozzles are clean. ➜ The cleaning procedure is complete.
9 9.8 Trouble-shooting Error codes in the printed reports Error codes will be printed on the activity reports and after delayed timer transmissions. These error codes will help you to identify and rectify any problems. 9-10 Error code Description OK The fax transmission was successful. 10 No answer from the receiving fax machine. 12 No answer. 19 Memory overflow during transmission reception. 20 Transmission was interrupted by pressing the STOP key. 21 Document jammed.

CAUTION Damage to apparatus due to using wrong cleansing substance! The housing can be damaged when cleaning with substances containing alcohol or benzine. ➜ Only clean the housing with a neutral household detergent.
