Click Download File(s) (Windows) or Download (Mac OS). To cancel downloading, press Escape (Windows) or Command-. (Mac OS).
12 12-8 Downloading Files and Fonts Printer fonts and Mac OS screen fonts Like all PostScript fonts, the fonts included with the Printer Board come in two forms: printer fonts and screen fonts. The printer fonts are installed permanently on the Printer Board hard disk. The screen fonts, which are included with the user software, should be installed on your Mac OS computer. If you are using these fonts in documents you print on a LaserWriter, they are probably already installed.
12 12-9 TO Using Fiery Downloader VIEW FONT INFORMATION , UPDATE , PRINT , AND DELETE FONTS : • Choose Font List from the File menu or click the Font List button. The Font List window appears with Update, Print, and Delete buttons in the title bar. The printer fonts included with the Printer Board (resident fonts) are locked. Locked fonts appear with a lock icon next to the name and cannot be deleted.
13 13-1 Fiery WebSpooler This chapter describes the job management capabilities of Fiery WebSpooler and Fiery Spooler for Mac OS. Chapter 13: Managing Print Jobs Fiery WebSpooler Fiery WebSpooler provides a window on Printer Board and copier functions, and an interface from which you can control those functions. T O L AUNCH F IERY W EB S POOLER : 1. From the Printer Board home page, click WebSpooler. For instructions on how to access the Printer Board home page, see Chapter 11. 2.
13 13-2 Managing Print Jobs Job management features Unless a password has been defined in Printer Board Setup, you can log in to Fiery WebSpooler without entering a password, and you are given full privileges which include: • A view of current printing jobs and jobs stored on the Printer Board • Control of printing jobs and a view of the Job Log • Ability to clear the Job Log After the Administrator has performed Setup and specified the password, user options depend on your login level.
13 13-3 Managing Print Jobs When the Printer Board is receiving and processing print jobs, the Job List window is a dynamic display, filled with the names of jobs and their characteristics. Status bars animate in real time as new jobs are processed and printed, and jobs move to different display areas.
13 13-4 Managing Print Jobs The three areas of the Fiery WebSpooler window, Spooling, RIP, and Printing, each indicate a job printing stage. The Fiery WebSpooler window is divided into three areas as Spooling, RIP, and Printing status bars. The job first goes to Spooling, and then goes through RIP (when not a standby job) to Printing. Spooled Jobs Already spooled jobs that are displayed under the Spooling status bar are stored in the Printer Board hard disk.
13 13-5 Managing Print Jobs Menu bar The menu bar has four menus. When an action is not available in the current context, the command is dimmed.
13 13-6 Managing Print Jobs N OTE : In the Spool status bar, the filename and user information always appear as “Unknown” (as shown below). This information is not available until the job has finished spooling to the Printer Board disk. Active jobs and Held jobs You can hold a job at any stage of the process we have described, as illustrated below. In the figure, boxes indicate types of job icons you would see in the Job List window.
13 13-7 Managing Print Jobs Job icons There are three types of icons that are used for both active jobs and jobs on hold.
13 13-8 Managing Print Jobs Hold queue jobs When printing requires an operator (because the Print queue and Direct connection are disabled), the operator must assign a destination to all jobs received from users on the network (icon 1 in the table above). Once assigned, jobs (icons 2, 3, and 4) move down the Spool queue for processing. All jobs printed to the Hold queue require routing by an operator.
13 13-9 Managing Print Jobs Jobs held in the RIP area remain there until the operator deletes them. Printing these jobs does not remove them from the RIP area. Instead, a copy of the job is created and printed. N OTE : For all rasterized jobs, the print option settings, in addition to the current calibration state of the Printer Board, remain with the saved raster data each time the job is reprinted.
13 13-10 Managing Print Jobs Job commands Using the commands in the Job menu, you can alter the destinations, priorities and other characteristics of jobs that appear in the Fiery WebSpooler window. Job commands are used to assign a selected job to a new destination or process. These commands are available from the Job menu (see page 13-5). The job commands available at a given time depend on the context; unavailable commands are dimmed.
13 13-11 Managing Print Jobs Changing print settings for PostScript jobs When logged in as Administrator, you can use the Override Print Settings command to check and override the print option settings (properties) of PostScript jobs.
13 13-12 Managing Print Jobs If you want to retain a copy of the job with its original settings, duplicate the job and rename the duplicate before you change any settings (see “Job commands” on page 13-10). The Override Print Settings dialog box displays all the job settings encoded by the PostScript printer driver that can be decoded by the Printer Board. If you (as operator) have not changed anything, these are the settings a user entered before sending the job.
13 13-13 Managing Print Jobs Update Print Delete The Job Log displays each job and the following information: status, document name, user name, date, start time, end time, process time, file size, device, paper size, media, number of originals, total number of pages, Note1, and Note2. The Status column provides the following information about jobs: OK The job was printed normally. ERROR An error occurred during processing or printing. CANCEL The job was canceled before printing was completed. 4.
13 13-14 Managing Print Jobs Fiery Spooler for Mac OS For Mac OS computers, the Fiery Spooler interface and functionality differs from Fiery WebSpooler. Error messages When an error interferes with printing, you will see a message on the LCD screen. Following are the messages (listed in alphabetical order), with the appropriate corrective action for each one.
C C-2 Troubleshooting Error message: Corrective action/additional information: Output tray 2 overload The copier’s output tray 2 is full. Printing will resume when the tray 2 bin is cleared. Output tray 3 overload The copier’s output tray 3 is full. Printing will resume when the tray 3 bin is cleared. Paper jam There is a paper jam in the copier. Open the copier doors and check the locations indicated on the LCD screen.
C C-3 Problems installing software If you are printing over an IPX (Novell) network, the job may be processing on the Novell print server before it is sent to the Printer Board. • Open the Fiery WebSpooler or Fiery Spooler for Mac OS main window and locate the name of the job you are trying to print. This window provides information about the status of every job printed to a queue, including information about jobs that do not print because of PostScript errors.
C C-4 Troubleshooting On a Mac OS computer Installing the Mac OS PostScript Printer Driver • If the Printer Driver cannot autoselect the printer description file, when prompted open the System Folder:Extensions:Printer Descriptions folder and select the file that corresponds to your copier. Installing screen fonts If you experience problems installing the PostScript screen fonts from the User Software CD to the System Folder:Fonts folder, try the following: 1.
C C-5 General printing problems General printing problems If this happens: The Printer Board doesn’t appear in the Mac OS computer’s Chooser list of printers. Try this: 1. On the Mac OS computer, make sure that the correct zone is selected and that AppleTalk is active. AppleTalk must be active. The Printer Board may be in a different zone from the one that’s selected (if your network doesn’t have zones, this is not applicable).
C C-6 Troubleshooting If this happens: Try this: You cannot select or view one of the Fiery WebSpooler or Fiery Spooler for Mac OS queues. • Have your system administrator enable the queue in Printer Board Printer Setup. Only connections enabled in Setup are available for selection and display in Fiery WebSpooler and Fiery Spooler for Mac OS. Printing seems to take too long. • Print to a queue instead of to the direct connection. Printer Board doesn’t respond to a Print command.
C C-7 General printing problems If this happens: Message requests a paper size that you don’t have. Try this: • Cancel the job and do one of the following: If you are printing a PostScript file: In Printer Board Printer Setup>PS Setup>Convert Sizes, select Yes to convert the job to the paper size you do have. You can do this to convert between US and metric paper sizes. For more information, see Chapter 2. If you are printing a file from an application, change the page size in the Print dialog box.
C C-8 Troubleshooting If this happens: Jobs sent to the parallel port do not print. Try this: • In Printer Board Network Setup>Parallel Setup>Port Timeout, increase the time value. • In Printer Board Network Setup>Parallel Setup>Ignore EOF: If you are printing ASCII format PostScript only, set to No. If you are printing Binary format PostScript, set to Yes. • If you print using the DOS copy command, make sure to use the /b option when printing binary files.
C C-9 Duplex printing problems Duplex printing problems If this happens: Duplex pages print upside down. Try this: • Change the Orientation or the Rotate 180 print options. These options specify how the second image is placed relative to the first. A few applications may not process the PostScript command correctly, so when you select the opposite setting, the correct one is used. Problems with Fiery Downloader If this happens: Try this: You can’t make a connection using Fiery Downloader.
C C-10 Troubleshooting If this happens: Extra blank page prints after a Fiery Downloader job. Try this: • Turn off the ‘showpage’ after EPS files (Windows) or ‘showpage’ (Mac OS) option. This option adds a special PostScript command that will cause an extra blank page to print if it is not needed. Problems with WebTools If this happens: General problems Try this: • Clear the cache (Netscape Communicator) or history (Microsoft Internet Explorer).
D D-1 Appendix D: Token Ring Network Option Token Ring Network Option Token Ring is an alternative network architecture to Ethernet architecture. Token Ring networks offer a high resistance to failure and are commonly used in large or hightraffic network installations. Token Ring networks operate by passing a network token around the electronic equivalent of a ring. The token is a data packet that circulates from one network node to another, controlling access to the network.
D D-2 Token Ring Network Option Connecting Token Ring hardware The service/support center that installs the Printer Board usually installs the Token Ring card at the same time and configures the Printer Board to enable printing. Turn off the Printer Board before connecting it to any network device. Do not attach cable to both Token Ring connectors.
D D-3 Token Ring Network Option IPX/SPX installations If your network uses IPX/SPX protocols with Token Ring, configure at least one printer, a Printer Board Print Server and a Printer Board Print Queue on the NetWare server as described in “Configuring a NetWare server for printing” on page 3-4. You can configure up to eight bindery servers and one NDS tree connection to the Printer Board. This total is the same whether the Printer Board is connected by Token Ring, by Ethernet, or by both.
