Baking
} What is baking in a combi-microwave appliance?
Baking in a combi-microwave appliance is very similar to traditional baking. You can use the
convection as a stand-alone function as per traditional methods, and set the temperature
and timer.
For cakes with soft toppings and fillings, such as cheesecakes, flans, vegetable tarts and
quiches, using the microwave combi function shortens the baking time.
} Can I bake just using the microwave?
If you are in a real hurry, you can bake a cake using the microwave only. Follow the special
microwave recipe for this purpose. However, you will not get the crispy, aromatic crust that
is achieved by soaking, glazing or decorating with cream.
} What type of baking dish can be used?
For baking in combi-mode, the baking dish must be heat-resistant and suitable for
microwave use. This applies to dishes made from heat-resistant glass, glass ceramics or
ceramics. Please check the manufacturer guidelines or the user guide.
Round dishes (24 to 26 cm depending on the appliance size and mixture quantity) help to
produce eective baking results. In dishes with corners, such as cake tins, the microwaves
are stronger on the edges and can lead to overcooking. Grease the baking dish well and
scatter over breadcrumbs, flour, ground almonds or nuts so that your cake can be served
without being ruined. It is advisable to use non-stick baking paper for flat cakes, biscuits
and flan bases. If you rinse out the dish with water beforehand, the paper will stick better.
} Which setting is correct?
Familiarise yourself with the settings in the baking chart. Please note that times and
temperatures are provided as a guide only, and may vary depending on the food product
type. If you are not able to use the microwave, the baking time will be doubled. Always
place cakes and items to be baked on the swivel plate and on the lowest rack so that the
heat can circulate.
} When is the cake ready?
Carefully insert a wooden rod into the thickest part of the cake. The cake is cooked through
when the rod remains dry and free from dough. Cakes that are cooked will separate from the
sides of the dish and are light in weight. If the pre-set baking time is not long enough then
you can adjust the timer. Allow the cake to set in the dish for 5 to 10 mins. Then, carefully
detach the sides of the dish, turn out the cake, or lift it from the dish.
