TheCaliforniaAir ResourcesBoard(CARD),U.S.EPAand Searsare pleased
to explainthe EmissionControlSystemWarrantyonyour modelyear2000and
latersmalloff-roadengine(SORE).InCalifornia,newsmall off-roadengines
mustbedesigned,builtand equippedto meettheState'sstringentanti-smog
standards.Elsewherein theUnitedStates,newnon-road,spark-ignition
enginescertifiedfor modelyear 1997and latermustmeetsimilarstandardsset
forthbythe U.S.EPA.Sears mustwarranttheemissioncontrolsystemonyour
YEAR1997ANDLATERENGINESWHICHARE PURCHASEDANDUSED
ELSEWHEREINTHEUNITEDSTATES(ANDAFTERJANUARY1,2001 IN
CANADA).
Control Defects Warranty Statement
enginefor theperiodsoftime listedbelow,providedtherehasbeen noabuse,
neglector impropermaintenanceofyour smalloff-roadengine.Youremis-
sion controlsystemincludespartssuchas thecarburetor,aircleaner,ignition
system,mufflerand catalyticconverter.Also includedmaybeconnectorsand
otheremissionrelatedassemblies.Wherea warrantableconditionexists,Sears
will repairyoursmalloff-roadengineat nocostto youincludingdiagnosis,parts
and labor.
Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty Coverage
Smalloff-roadenginesarewarrantedrelativeto emissioncontrolpartsdefects
fora periodof one year,subjectto provisionsset forthbelow.Ifanycovered
Owner's Warranty
Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,you are responsiblefor theperformanceof
therequiredmaintenancelistedin yourOperatingand MaintenanceInstruc-
tions.Searsrecommendsthatyou retainallyourreceiptscoveringmaintenance
onyoursmalloff-roadengine,butSearscannotdenywarrantysolelyfor the
lackof receiptsorfor yourfailuretoensuretheperformanceof allscheduled
maintenance.As the smalloff-roadengineowner,youshouldhoweverbe
awarethat Searsmaydenyyouwarrantycoverageifyour smalloff-roadengine
ora part hasfaileddueto abuse,neglect,impropermaintenanceor unap-
parton yourengineis defective,the partwillbe repairedorreplacedbySears.
Responsibilities
provedmodifications.Youare responsiblefor presentingyour smalloff-road
engineto anAuthorizedSearsServiceDealeras soonas a problemexists.The
undisputedwarrantyrepairsshouldbecompletedina reasonableamountof
time,notto exceed30days.Ifyou haveany questionsregardingyourwarranty
rightsand responsibilities,youshouldcontacta SearsService Representative
at 1-800-469-4663.Theemissionwarrantyisa defectswarranty.Defectsare
judgedon normalengineperformance.Thewarrantyis notrelatedtoan in-use
emissiontest.

ThefollowingarespecificprovisionsrelativetoyourEmissionControlDefectsWarrantyCoverage.ItisinadditiontotheSearsenginewarrantyfornon-regulated
enginesfoundin theOperatingand MaintenanceInstructions.
1. WarrantedParts
Coverageunderthis warrantyextendsonlyto the partslistedbelow(the
emissioncontrolsystemsparts)to the extentthese partswere presenton
the enginepurchased.

• FuelPump

• Aircleaner

2. Lengthof Coverage
Searswarrantstothe initialownerand eachsubsequentpurchaserthat
the WarrantedPartsshallbefree fromdefectsin materialsandworkman-
shipwhich causedthefailure of the WarrantedPartsfor a periodof one
yearfromthe datethe engineis deliveredtoa retailpurchaser.
3. NoCharge
Repairor replacementof anyWarrantedPartwill beperformedat no
chargeto the owner,includingdiagnosticlaborwhichleadsto the
determinationthata WarrantedPartisdefective,ifthe diagnosticworkis
performedatan AuthorizedSearsServiceDealer.Foremissionswarranty
servicecontact yournearestAuthorizedSearsServiceDealeras listed in
the "YellowPages"under"Engines,Gasoline,""GasolineEngines,""Lawn
Mowers,"orsimilarcategory.
4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions
Warrantyclaimsshall befiled in accordancewiththe provisionsof the
SearsEngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall beexcludedfor
failuresof WarrantedPartswhichare notoriginal Searspartsor because
of abuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth inthe Sears
EngineWarrantyPolicy.Searsisnotliableto coverfailuresof Warranted
Partscausedby theuseof add-on,non-original,or modifiedparts.
5. Maintenance
AnyWarrantedPartwhichis notscheduledfor replacementas required
maintenanceor whichis scheduledonly for regularinspectiontothe effect
of "repairor replaceas necessary"shallbe warrantedasto defectsfor the
warrantyperiod.AnyWarrantedPartwhich isscheduledfor replacement
as requiredmaintenanceshallbewarrantedasto defectsonlyforthe
periodoftime upto the firstscheduledreplacementfor that part.Any
replacementpartthat is equivalentin performanceand durabilitymay
beusedin the performanceof any maintenanceor repairs.The owneris
responsibleforthe performanceof allrequiredmaintenance,as definedin
the SearsOperatingand MaintenanceInstructions.
6. ConsequentialCoverage
Coveragehereundershallextendto thefailure of anyenginecomponents
causedbythe failureof anyWarrantedPartstill underwarranty.
