History is filled with many famous companies born from moments
that solved problems or filled a need. For Klein Tools, the
moment that would begin to form the DNA of the company was
the opportunity for Mathias Klein to solve a problem with a tool,
and ultimately, to make it better.
In 1857, a lineman walked into his blacksmith shop and presented him
with pliers broken on one side. Mathias meticulously forged a new piece
in the only way he knew how – using American-made steel and working
hard until it was done just right. It wasn’t long before that satisfied
customer returned to have the other side replaced. Soon thereafter, word
spread of this exceptional pair of pliers.
Those first hours it took for Mathias to carefully craft that first pair of
pliers is the genetics of Klein Tools that has been the makeup
of this company for over a century and a half.
