5. Remove the recoil spring guide and spring
by lifting the assembly slightly, then
withdrawing it toward the rear of the slide.
Once the slide is removed DO NOT engage
the thumb safety into the “ON” position.
Doing so will cause the thumb safety
detent plunger to spring out from the
frame. The plunger is under spring tension
and can fl y out with enough force to
cause serious injury or property damage.
Wear eye protection while disassembling
and assembling (see page 25).
6. Remove the recoil spring from the guide rod
while being careful not to bend the spring.
NOTE
The closed end of the recoil spring always
goes down the guide rod. The open end of
the spring always faces toward the muzzle
end of the slide.
7. Remove the barrel from the slide by fi rst
lifting, then moving the barrel to the rear
out away from the slide.
The fi rearm is now disassembled. No further
disassembly is required for general cleaning.
Do not drop the hammer while the slide is
removed from the fi rearm.
