Depth of Water
The depth of water applied by the Water-Reel is regulated by the speed of the sprinkler moving across the
ground and the rate of water being discharged by the sprinkler head. The sprinkler nozzle size and the water
pressure at the sprinkler determine the rate of water discharged. The selecon of the sprinkler nozzle is made
based on the water supply and pump performance.
Aer the desired depth of water has been determined and the proper nozzle has been installed, follow the
steps in the following example to set the speed: (Assume: 1.46” ring nozzle in sprinkler, 120 psi inlet pressure
on pressure gauge, and a desired depth of water of 1 inch.
1. Find the proper secon in the performance Guide for the 1.46” ring nozzle.
2. Locate the 122-psi inlet pressure.
3. Find depth of applicaon 1.00 inch.
4. Set your travel speed as indicated (111 feet per hour in this example).
5. The water pressure on the sprinkler nozzle is 70 psi. The ow in gallons per minute being dis-
charged through the sprinkler is 355 and the weed diameter is 385 feet.
6. The eecve irrigated width is 270 feet and the maximum eecve irrigated length is 1455 feet.
7. You can also note the precipitaon rate (the rate that water is being applied to the soil) is 0.40
inches per hour. This computaon is based on a 320-degree arc of the sprinkler with the arc
symmetrical to the direcon of travel. See sprinkler arc seng in this secon.
8. Hours required for a complete run of about 13.2 can be read from the chart at the boom of the
performance guide entled “Retracon Speed of Irrigaon Tube (Ft/Hr)”.
Note: This informaon is based on standard lengths of tube for the various models. Any tube of a non-
standard length or diameter will substanally change the performance. Consult the factory for performance
informaon on non-standard tubes.
