This Kidde carbon monoxide (CO) alarm is an important part of your family’s home safety plan. This alarm has been designed and tested to detect CO buildup in a residential environment. Your alarm is for use specifically in the home. As an owner of a CO alarm, there are some basic facts you should know about for your protection.

Information About Carbon Monoxide General Carbon Monoxide Information Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and tasteless poison gas that can be fatal when inhaled. CO inhibits the blood’s capacity to carry oxygen. Periodically review this user's guide and discuss your CO alarm emergency procedure with all the members of your family. Never ignore a CO alarm. A true alarm is an indication of potentially dangerous levels of CO.

Information About Carbon Monoxide Carbon Monoxide PPM Levels (model KN-COP-DP-LS with digital display only) Model KN-COP-DP-LS is equipped with a digital display that shows levels of CO (displayed in PPM – parts per million). Learn the difference between dangerous, high, mid and low levels. Dangerous Levels: When someone is experiencing symptoms of CO poisoning and CO readings are generally above 100 PPM.

Information About Carbon Monoxide Because carbon monoxide is a cumulative poison, long-term exposures to low levels may cause symptoms, as well as short-term exposures to high levels. This Kidde unit has a time-weighted alarm – the higher the level of CO present, the sooner the alarm will be triggered. This CO alarm can only warn you of the presence of CO. It does not prevent CO from occurring, nor can it solve an existing CO problem.

It is recommended that you install a Kidde CO alarm on each level of your home. When choosing your installation locations, make sure you can hear the Recommended Locations alarm from all sleeping areas. If you install only one CO alarm in your home, install it near bedrooms, not in the basement or furnace room.

Choose a standard 120V unswitched outlet to plug the alarm into. 2. If outlet is mounted sideways (horizontally), rotate the plug and plug the alarm in. CAUTION: Do not rotate the alarm while it is plugged into an outlet, as damage to plug may result.

KN-COB-DP-LS Operating Characteristics Within a few minutes, your carbon monoxide alarm will start monitoring for CO and will continue to do so as long as it receives power. When the Model KN-COB-DP-LS CO alarm loses power: If you have a good 9V battery installed, the alarm will automatically switch to the battery backup mode and the green LED will flash approximately every 10 seconds.

Model KN-COP-DP-LS (with digital display) Operating Characteristics Whenever the alarm is operating, the digital display will display “0” to indicate the unit is monitoring for CO. If the alarm senses dangerous levels of CO, the digital display will indicate the CO concentration in parts per million (PPM), and the alarm will emit an audible alarm pattern.

Model KN-COP-DP-LS (with digital display) Operating Characteristics Peak Level Memory When the Peak Level button is pressed and held, the display shows the highest CO reading taken by the CO alarm since its last Peak Level Memory Reset or power up. The Peak Level display feature will display levels between 11-999 PPM.

However, these alarms are equipped with 9 volt battery backup – the 9 volt battery is to supply short term back-up during a power outage. When replacing the battery, use one of the following approved brands: • Duracell MN1604 or MX1604 • Energizer 522 • Gold Peak GP1604A These batteries can be purchased where you bought the alarm or at a local hardware store.
