Listening to radio broadcasts
You can refer to Radio Data System information in 
the display window while listening to an FM radio 
broadcast. 
■ When listening to an FM radio broadcast
Press [DISPLAY MODE] repeatedly. 
PS (Program Service): 
While the main unit is searching for Radio Data 
System information, “WAIT PS” appears and then 
the radio station name is displayed in the display 
window. “NO PS” appears if no signal is received.
PTY (Program Type):
While the main unit is searching for Radio Data 
System information, “WAIT PTY” appears and then 
the type of the broadcasted program is displayed 
in the display window. “NO PTY” appears if no sig-
nal is received. 
RT (Radio Text):
While the main unit is searching for Radio Data 
System information, “WAIT RT” appears and then 
text messages sent by the radio station are dis-
played in the display window. “NO RT” appears if 
no signal is received. 
NOTE
• If the main unit takes time to show the Radio 
Data System information received from a radio 
station, “PS”, “PTY” or “RT” may appear in the 
display window. 
• When PS, PTY or RT signals appear in the dis-
play window, irregular characters and marks 
may not be displayed correctly. 
You can locate a type of radio program by specify-
ing the corresponding PTY code. 
The PTY search is applicable only to the preset 
radio stations. 
■ When an FM radio broadcast is selected as 
the source 
1 Press [PTY SEARCH]. 
Display on the main unit
2 Press [PTY SELECT +] or [PTY 
SELECT –] repeatedly to select a 
PTY code while “PTY SELECT” is 
flashing in the display window. 
Example: When “Document” is selected as a 
PTY code
• Refer to page 24 for the PTY codes. 
3 Press [PTY SEARCH]. 
• While the main unit is searching for a radio 
program, “SEARCH” and the selected PTY 
codes is displayed in the display window.
Example: When “Document” is selected as a 
PTY code
• The main unit searches 30 preset FM radio 
stations, and stops when the main unit finds 
the one you have selected. At this time the 
selected frequency and PTY code flash. 
When [PTY SEARCH] is pressed while the 
selected frequency and PTY code are flash-
ing, the main unit automatically starts 
searching for the next radio station. After the 
frequency and PTY code stop flashing or if a 
button is pressed, the main unit automati-
cally tunes in to the radio station. 
• To stop searching, press [PTY SEARCH] or 
[CANCEL]. 
• If no program is found, “NOT FOUND” 
appears in the display window and the main 
unit returns to the last received radio station.
