Instructions for Using the Alkaline Battery Holder
The alkaline baery holder enables you to power the Allegro Field PC with alkaline baeries.
Follow the steps outlined below for proper usage.
1. Exit from any open programs and turn the Allegro o before changing the baeries.
2. The Allegro baery compartment is accessed through a door in the back of the case. To open
the compartment door, push up on the release latches on the sides of the case. The door pops
open. Remove the NiMH pack or alkaline holder by sliding it to the le and pulling it out.
3. Open the door to the alkaline baery holder by pressing in on
both tabs with your index nger and thumb.
4. Insert three fresh AA alkaline baeries, taking care to orient
them correctly. Always replace all three baeries at once.

highqualityrechargeablebaeries.
5. Slide the door to the alkaline holder back into place, making
sure it snaps securely shut.
6. Place the alkaline baery holder in the le side of the
Allegro baery compartment. Put gentle pressure on the
holder while sliding it all the way to the right.
7. Press down on the Allegro baery compartment door to
close it. The latches should automatically lock the door
into place and seal the compartment. Make sure that the
slide latches are completely closed.
Important Information Regarding the Use of Alkaline Batteries
The Allegro Field PC is designed to be used with the recharge NiMH baery pack that came
with the unit. The alkaline baery option should be considered as a backup to the NiMH
baery pack not as the main source of power for an extended period of time. Alkaline baeries
have a lower capacity and a higher resistance than NiMH baeries. Thus the baery life and
performance of the Allegro are reduced when alkaline baeries are used. The Allegro runs as
described below:
Do not use the alkaline baery holder below 0° C.
The display heater cannot be used.
Baery life ranges between 2 and 8 hours (this is highly dependent on the temperature).
Reduce CPU clock speed to 208 MHz to preserve baery life (Allegro MX only).




