4. Use one of the following m ethods to take the PIC offline:
Press and hold the PIC offline button until its failure ind icator LED lights, which
usually takes about 5 seconds. The failure LED is usually red; for mo re information,
see the M5 and M
10 Internet Routers PIC Guide. The offline button for each PIC is
located below it on the craft inter face and is label e d with the PIC slot number.
Issue the foll

For more information about the com m and, see the JUNOS Internet Software
Operational Mode Command Reference: Protocols, Class of Service, Chassis, and
Management.
5. Disconnect the cables from the PIC. If th e PIC uses fiber-optic cable, immediately cover
each transce
iver and the end of each cable with a rubber safety cap.
Do not look directly into the ends of fiber-optic cables or into the
transceivers on the interface faceplate. Single-mode fiber-optic cable
and the interfaces that use it (such as ATM and SONET/SDH interfaces)
emit laser light that can damage your eyes.
Do not leave a fiber-optic transceiver uncovered except when inserting
or removing cable. The safety cap keeps the port clean and prevents
accidental exposure to laser light.
6. Arrange the cable in the cable management system to prevent it from dislodging or
developing st ress p oint s. Secure t he cable so that it is not supporting its own weight as
it hangs to the f
loor.Placeexcesscableoutofthewayinaneatlycoiledloopinthe
cable management system. Placing fasteners on the loop helps to maintain its shape.
Avoid bending fiber-optic cable beyond its minimum bend radius. An
arc smaller than a few inches in diameter can damage the cable and
cause problems that are difficult to diagnose.
