7.1 Intended use
The JUMO safetyM STB/STW Ex is a safety device according to Directive 94/9 EC, Chapter 1, Article 1, Paragraph (2), which is
designed to measure temperatures directly through a resistance probe or thermocouple probe, and other physical measurands
such as pressure, with an appropriate transmitter and 4 to 20 mA current input.
The specifications and requirements in this Operating Manual must be observed accordingly. All of the following specifications
relating to probes or sensor systems refer to the probes listed in Chapter 9.13 to 9.15. If other probes are used, their suitability
must be verified.
The JUMO safetyM STB/STW Ex is associated apparatus that may only be used outside of the Ex zone.
Another use or one that goes beyond the specified use - with respect to use in potentially explosive areas - is not considered to
be an intended use.
Liability for resulting damages cannot be assumed.
The JUMO safetyM STB/STW Ex has been constructed in accordance with the applicable standards and guidelines and rele-
vant safety regulations. Nevertheless, incorrect use may lead to bodily injury or property damage.
To prevent risks, the JUMO safetyM STB/STW Ex may only be used:
- For the intended use
- When in good order and condition
- In accordance with this Operating Manual

Important information:
Thermocouples should be evaluated with at least the requirements of EN 60584 or DIN 43710. RTD temperature
probes should be evaluated with at least the requirements of EN 60751. Parameter values such as response rate,
temperature stability, age drift, self-heating behavior, failure rates, fault models, etc. should likewise be taken into
account.
