7.1.7.20 Check Firing and Cancel Check Firing
1. CHECK FIRING
Anyone can command CHECK FIRING when an unsafe situation becomes apparent. This command
causes the ship to instantly stop firing.
2. CANCEL CHECK FIRING
The originator of check firing must announce CANCEL CHECK FIRING for the fire mission to continue.
At the third transmission panel, a check box for check firing is displayed. If required to check fire,
click the check box, then transmit. Guns belonging to the current naval gunfire mission will hold fire.
The checkbox of Check Fire consists of three states. If the check box consists of a block, it specifies
no setting. A check mark would specify CHECK FIRE and a blank box would specify CANCEL CHECK
FIRE.
7.1.8 Fire Missions using PRF Code
The PRF code is a 4 digit number combination that is in the range of 1111 - 1788 and only digits 1-8
can be used (for instance 1169 is an invalid code). The code is a target identification mechanism that
is to be entered by the FO in VBS3 and in VBS3Fires. The PRF code is to be used with the Laser
Designator for Laser Guided Ammunition such as CPHD.
When the FO is in place, choose the Laser Designator from inventory and designate towards the
target. It is important to note that the laser designator has to be switched on with the laser. While in
this view using the Laser designator, from the inventory selection menu, select SET PRF code.
