26.2 Installation Data Directory
From VBS3Fires version 1.22, VBS3Fires supports the ability to have a default data location inside the
VBS3Fires installation directory. This will be a directory called myData which is located inside the
root VBS3Fires installation directory.
For example, on a typical installation this would be;
C:\Program Files\SimCentric Technologies\VBS3Fires\myData
Placing files inside this myData directory, will result in that particular file being used in place of the
of the default values. If a mission, user or particular battery has its own file defined separately, this
more specific customization will be used in place of the myData file.
26.3 Preferences
The preferences are defined in a file called firesOptions.xml. This file contains xml data about:
The initial call-for-fire doctrine to be used when VBS3Fires loads
The Immediate Suppression Fire Mission defaults (for NATO call-for-fire doctrine)
The choice of grid reference to be used within VBS3Fires
The loading order for the preferences is:
1. Attempt to load from User Directory %USERPROFILE%\Documents\VBS3\Simcentric\Fires
\firesOptions.xml
2. Attempt to load from myData Directory [InstallDir]\myData\ firesOptions.xml
3. Use default values
The easiest way to create a firesOptions.xml file that can be placed in the myData directory:
1. In VBS3Fires, go to, Menubar Tools Preferences.
2. In Preferences panel select the desired options.
3. Then click Save as Default button.
