26 Customizing VBS3Fires
There are a number of files that are used by the VBS3Fires system to generate certain behaviours,
settings and parameters within the simulation. VBS3Fires contains default values which are used if
no customization is provided; however, if customized files are present, then these will be used in the
place of the defaults. A summary of the possible customizations are shown below:
Customisation
Description
Customisation Scope
Preferences
(firesOptions.xml)
General settings for the VBS3Fires
system including choice of doctrine,
default settings for immediate
suppression missions, Grid
Referencing system choice.
These settings affect all
missions, Batteries and FOs
using this instance of VBS3Fires
Radio Net
(radioNets.dat)
Defines the allowable callsigns, and
frequencies
A different Radio Net can be
defined for each VBS3 scenario
Aerodynamic Drag
(drag.dat)
Defines the aerodynamic drag
properties of a projectile and how this
changes depending on the speed of
the projectile
A different aerodynamic drag
file can be defined for each
VBS3 scenario
Atmosphere Profile
(atmosphereProfile.dat)
Defines the atmospheric profile of the
atmosphere. This will include
temperature and density at varying
altitudes
A different atmospheric profile
file can be defined for each
VBS3 scenario
Met Table
(met.dat)
Defines the wind speed and direction
for specified layers (altitude bands) in
the atmosphere
A different met table file can be
defined for each VBS3 scenario
Charge Tables
(chargeX.dat)
Defines the allowable charges and the
resulting muzzle velocities for a given
A different charge table file can
be defined for each battery in
each VBS3 scenario. Comments
