Image 5.5 Instructor only Configuration
In essence, all communications interaction between trainee and instructor occurs outside the
VBS3Fires system, and VBS3Fires is used as the tool to create the required offensive support effects.
5.2.4 Artillery Effects Support Configuration
The Artillery Effects Support Configuration is used to support VBS3 scenarios where call-for-fire
training is not the sole training purpose. VBS3Fires can be run in either Instructor mode or Stand-
alone mode and can be used to create artillery effects which will affect Maneuver elements within
the scenario.
Generally, if run in Stand-alone mode, a trainee will be acting as a Forward FO participating in a
scenario with other Trainee-in-the-Loop Maneuver elements. This allows realistic employment of
artillery in the Battle Space and can be used to train the Maneuver commander, soldiers and the FO
simultaneously.
If VBS3Fires is run in Instructor mode, it is generally intended to create realistic artillery effects in the
Battle Space which impact other Maneuver elements. For example, OPFOR artillery could be
simulated this way.
