The instructor can focus on identifying and highlighting learning points in a scenario rather than
explicitly responding to requests for call-for-fire.
5.2.2 Self-paced Training Configuration
The self-paced training configuration utilises a single license of VBS3Fires in Stand-alone mode. This
configuration allows the trainee to enter a call-for-fire on a Stand-alone terminal and to have that
same terminal automatically respond to the call-for-fire.
Image 5.4: Self-paced training configuration
It allows a trainee to practice and rehearse calls-for-fire without the requirement for instructors to
control the Battery. It allows multiple trainees to rehearse calls-for-fire with each one interacting
with separate VBS3 scenarios.
This mode also provides the trainee with several analysis tools such as Terminal Effects analysis
tools, terrain analysis tools and camera visualisation tools. These are designed to assist a trainee in
fully exploring self-paced training scenarios with minimal requirement for instructor supervision.
5.2.3 Instructor-only Configuration
This configuration uses a single licence of VBS3Fires which runs in Stand-alone mode. It involves the
trainee sending a call-for-fire by speaking aloud to an Instructor/Operator who manually interprets
the CFF and inputs instructions for relevant Batteries using the Instructor terminal. This system is
ideal for training in classrooms with projector screens where the trainee’s viewpoint is displayed on
the main screen.
