6b. If the trailer lights are grounded through the chassis, use the following in-
structions. Plug in the 10 foot Chassis Ground Cable to the SMART MUTT®
“Chassis Ground Outlet” (Fig. 3-N). Then using the alligator clip, attach
the other end of the ground cable to the chassis of the trailer. This eec-
tively grounds your trailer and allows testing to continue.
7. After the “Ground Integrity Test” the Control Knob (Fig. 2-A) may be ro-
tated in either direction to select a circuit to diagnose. The corresponding
circuit indicator (Fig. 2-E) illuminates, indicating the selected circuit.
AUTO CYCLE MODE
1. After Ground Integrity has been established, momentarily push and re-
lease the control knob (Fig. 2-A). The auto cycle indicator (Fig. 2-D) illumi-
nates, showing the mode has been selected.
2. There is a 5 second delay before power is applied to the rst circuit auto-
matically.
3. Power is applied by the SMART MUTT® to one circuit at a time for 5 seconds
in clockwise direction, starting with the clearance indicator (Fig. 2-E).
4. To pause or stop the Auto Cycle Mode, momentarily press and release the
control knob, turning o the Auto Cycle Indicator.
BYPASSING SOUND
How to override warning sound:
• To bypass sound, hold control knob in until sound is heard, then release.
(5 seconds)
• To re-initiate sound, repeat process above, or cycle power using the power
selection switch.
SMALL TRAILER LED MODE
Allows testing of low amperage draw, single LED type systems by overriding
the Open Circuit warning.
To activate, power must initially be switched o.
Depress Control Knob (Fig. 2-A) while simultaneously switching Power “ON”.
Continue depressing the Control Knob during the Indicator test cycle.
Once the initial Indicator test cycle completes, the Open Circuit indicator
remains lit.
Release the knob at this time. The Open Circuit indicator ashes in brief
intervals, acknowledging the mode has been selected.
Commence testing without Open Circuit monitoring.
Cycle power switch to return to normal operation.
