Logic Battery (LB IN)
ThelogiccircuitsofRoboClawcanbepoweredfromasecondarybatterywiredtoLB(LogicBattery).Thelogicbatterywill
allowRoboClawtofunctionproperlywhenthemainbatteryisdrainedandprotectagainstpowerbrownoutswhenthe
mainbatteryisunderheavyload.
Encoder Inputs (1A / 1B)
Theencodersinputarelabeled1Aand1B.Quadratureencoderinputsaretypicallylabeled1Aand1B.Quadrature
encodersaredirectional.Theencoderregisterwillcountupordowndependingonthedirectionofrotation.UseIon
Studiotodeterminetheencodersdirectiontothemotorsrotation.EncoderchannelsAandBcanbeswappedinsoftware
usingIonStudiotoavoidre-wiringtheencoderormotor.
Control Inputs (S1 / S2 / S3)
S1,S2andS3aresetupforstandardservostyleheadersI/O,+5VandGND.S1andS2arethecontrolinputsforserial,
analogandRCmodes.S3canbeusedasaipswitchinputwheninRCorAnalogmodes.InserialmodeS3canbeused
asanemergencystopinputsorasvoltageclampcontroloutput.WhenS3issetasanE-Stopitisactivewhenpulledlow.
AllI/Ohaveinternalpull-upstopreventaccidentaltriggerswhenleftoating.SomeRCreceivershavetheirownsupply
andwillconictwiththeRoboClaw’s5vlogicsupply.Itmaybenecessarytoremovethe+5VpinfromtheRCreceivers
cableinthosesituations.
Main Battery Wires
Themainbatteryinputratingis6VDCto34VDC.TheRoboClawSoloispre-wired.Theredwireisthepositive(+)
connectionandtheblackistheground(-)connections.
Do not reverse main battery wires or damage will occur.
Disconnect
Themainbatteryshouldincludeaquickdisconnectincaseofarunawaysituationandpowerneedstobecut.Theswitch
mustberatedtohandlethemaximumcurrentandvoltagefromthebattery.Totalcurrentwillvarydependingonthe
typeofmotorsused.AcommonsolutionwouldbeaninexpensivecontactorwhichcanbesourcefromsiteslikeEbay.A
powerdioderatedforthemaximumcurrentthebatterywilldelivershouldbeplacedacrosstheswitchtoprovideapath
backtothebatteryifdisconnectedwhilethemotorsarespinning.Thediodewillprovideapathbacktothebatteryfor
regenerativepowereveniftheswitchisopened.
Motor Wires
Themotorwiresarecolorcoded.ThegreenwireisM1AandtheyellowwireisM2B.Themotorwiresshouldbeasshort
aspossible.Longwirescanincreasetheinductanceandthereforeincreasepotentiallyharmfulvoltagespikes.
