Tipping
WARNING
DO NOT tip the wheelchair without assistance.
DO NOT let the wheelchair drop the last few inches to the ground. This could result in injury to
the occupant.
Whentippingthewheelchair,anassistantshouldgraspthebackofthewheelchaironanon‐removable(non‐detachable)
part.Informthewheelchairoccupantbeforetiltingthewheelchairandremindhim/hertoleanback.Besuretheoccupant’s
feetandhandsareclearofallwheelsand/orpinchpoints.Applya
continuousmotionuntilthebalancepointisachieved.
Atthispoint,theassistantwillfeeladifferenceintheweightdistribution.Turnthewheelchairinthedesireddirectionif
necessary.Slowlylowerthewheelchairinonecontinuousmovement.
Tipping - Curbs
WARNING
Invacare does not recommend that sport wheelchairs be used where traversing curbs present an
obstacle. Possible injury to occupant and/or assistant(s) can occur. Transfer to an everyday use
wheelchair is recommended if any such obstacles may be encountered.
Aftermasteringthetechniquesoftippingthewheelchair,usethefollowingmethodtotacklecurbs,shortstairs,etc.
Turntheanti‐tippers,ifequipped,sothewheelsarefacingup.Unlessthefirstassistanthasexceptionalupperbodystrength,
itisrecommendedthattwoassistantsperformthisoperation.Thesecondassistant
shouldbepositionedatthefrontofthe
wheelchairliftingupwardonanon‐removable(non‐detachable)partofthewheelchairframewhenliftingthewheelchair
andstabilizingthewheelchairwhenthewheelchairisbeingloweredtotheground.
Thefirstassistantshouldstandonthesidewalkandturnthewheelchair
sothattherearwheelsareagainstthecurb.The
wheelchairshouldbetiltedbacktothebalancepointand,inonecontinuousupwardmovement,therearwheelsshouldbe
pulledupandoverthecurb.DONOTreturnthefrontcastorstothegrounduntilthewheelchairhasbeen
pulledbackward
farenoughforthefrontcastorstocleartheedgeofthecurb.

inches to the ground. This could result in injury to the occupant and/or damage to the wheelchair.
Rollthewheelchairbackwardandslowlylowerthe
wheelchairinonecontinuousmovement.DONOTletthe
wheelchairdropthelastfewinchestotheground.This
couldresultininjurytotheoccupant.Turntheanti‐tippers
sothewheelsarefacingdown.
