SECTION 7—CASTERS
WARNING
After any adjustments, repair or service and before use, make sure all attaching hardware is
tightened securely - otherwise injury or damage may result.
CAUTION
As with any vehicle, the wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and wear, and
should be replaced when necessary.
Replacing/Adjusting Front Forks
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGU RE 7.1.
Replacing
1. Removethecasterfromthefork.RefertoReplacingFrontCastersonpage 19.
2. Removethedustcover.
3. Removethelocknutandnylonwasherthatsecuretheforktothecasterheadtube.
4. Droptheforkoutofthecasterheadtube.
5. SlidethenewforkintothecasterheadtubeandreassemblebyreversingSTEPS14.
6. Adjusttheforks.Refer toAdjusting
onpage 19.
7. RepeatSTEPS16fortheoppositefork,ifnecessary.
Adjusting
1. Removethedustcover.
A. Toproperlytightenthecasterjournalsystemand
guardagainstflutter,performthefollowingcheck:
B. Tipbackthetransportchairtofloor.
C. Simultaneouslypivotbothforksandcasterstothe
topoftheirarc.
D. Letthecastersdroptothebottomofthearc(wheels
shouldswingonceto
oneside,thenimmediately
restinastraightdownwardposition).
E. Adjustthelocknutsaccordingtofreedomofthe
casterswing.
F. Testthetransportchairformaneuverability.
G. Readjustthelocknutsifnecessary,andrepeat
STEPS23untilcorrect.
H. Snapthedustcoveroverthelocknutandstem.
Replacing Front Casters
NOTE:Forthisprocedure,refertoFIGU RE 7.1.
1. Removethehexscrew,washersand locknutthatsecure
thefrontcastertothefork.
2. ReverseSTEP1toinstallthenewfrontcaster.
3. RepeatSTEPS12fortheoppositefrontcaster.
