SECTION 3—SAFETY INSPECTION
NOTE:Everysixmonthstakeyourtransportchairtoaqualifiedtechnicianforathoroughinspectionandservicing.Regularcleaning
willreveallooseorwornpartsandenhancethesmoothoperationofyourtransportchair.Tooperateproperlyandsafely,yourtransport
chairmustbecaredforjustlikeanyother
vehicle.Routinemaintenancewillextendthelifeandefficiencyofyourtransportchair.
Safety Inspection Checklists
Initialadjustmentsshouldbemadetosuityourpersonalbodystructureandpreference.Thereafterfollowthese
maintenanceprocedures:
Inspect/Adjust Initially
❑ Ensuretransportchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedragorpulltooneside).
❑ Inspectseatandbackupholsteryforripsorsagging.
❑ Inspectbackcanehandgripsforwear,looseness,and/ordeterioration.
❑ Inspectforanylooseorbrokenhardwareonthetr ansportchair.
❑ Ensurethatthereisnoexcessiveside
movementorbindingwhentherearwheelsareliftedandspun.
❑ Inspectforcracked,brokenorloosespokes.
❑ Ensurethewheel/forkassemblyhaspropertensionwhenthecasterisspun.Thecastershouldcometoagradualstop.
❑ Loosen/tightenthelocknutifthewheelwobblesnoticeablyorbindstoastop.
❑ Ensurethewheelbearingsarecleanandfreeofmoisture.
CAUTION
As with any vehicle, wheels and tires should be checked periodically for cracks and wear and
should be replaced.
❑ Inspectthetiresforflatspotsandwear.
❑ EnsurethehandbrakesDONOTinterferewiththetireswhenrolling.
❑ Ensurethehandbrakepivotpointsarefreeofwearandlooseness.
❑ Ensurethehandbrakesareeasytoengage.
❑ Cleanupholsteryandarmrests.
Inspect/Adjust Weekly
❑ Ensurethetransportchairrollsstraight(noexcessivedragorpulltooneside).
❑ Inspectforcracked,brokenorloosespokes.
❑ Ensurethewheel/forkassemblyhaspropertensionwhencasterisspun.Thecastershouldcometoagradualstop.
❑ Ensurethehandbrakesdonotinterferewithtireswhen
rolling.
❑ Ensurethehandbrakepivotpointsarefreeofwearandlooseness.
Inspect/Adjust Monthly
❑ Inspectforanylooseorbrokenhardwareonthetr ansportchair.
❑ Inspectbackcanehandgripsforwear,looseness,and/ordeterioration.
❑ Loosen/tightenthelocknutifthewheelwobblesnoticeablyorbindstoastop.
