Firmware updates
Occasionally we will offer you the option to
upgrade your COOL-ER software if you wish. This
is called a firmware upgrade.
Preparation
Download COOL-ER firmware upgrade from the
CoolReaders site
Load unzipped firmware files onto an empty SD
Card.
SD Firmware update
1. Connect your COOL-ER to a computer
via your USB cable for uninterrupted power
during upgrade.
2. Insert firmware loaded SD card into slot on
top edge of device. The SD card should be
inserted with the cut-off corner at the
bottom and the writing on the front. Ensure
you press the card home until it is flush
with the edge of your COOL-ER.
3. Press and hold the control wheel central
button and Library button (E)
simultaneously. Do not release the buttons
until after step 5.
4. Press reset, whilst still holding the control
wheel central button and Library button.
5. Wait for LED on front face to flash, then
release the control wheel central button
and Library button.
6. Upgrade screen will appear after several
seconds.
7. ‘Upgrade file system’ text will show
Chinese character text and then progress to
‘upgrade OK’ in English when upgrade is
complete. (Time taken is dependent on
upgrade).
8. Finally, remove memory card (to release it
press it in), press ’reset’ and disconnect
from computer to use COOL-ER.
If you encounter any issues, repeat instructions
from point 1.
For Adobe Digital
Editions (ADE) users
only
(Please go straight to Preparation if you
do not use ADE. If you don't know if you
use ADE then you probably don't.)
To retain your Digital Rights Managed
(DRM) documents during the upgrade:
a) Open ADE on your computer
b) Connect your COOL-ER to computer
via USB cable.
c) Control/Shift/D to deactivate ADE
during upgrade.
To re-activate ADE following upgrade,
connect COOL-ER via USB and re-open
ADE.
