Security functions
Changing the supervisor password or user password
You can only change the supervisor password when you have logg ed into the
BIOS Setup Utility with the supervisor p assword.

► Start the BIOS Setup Utility and go to the Security menu.
► When changing the password , proceed exactly as when assigning a password.
Removing passwords
To remove a password (without setting a new password) perform the following steps:

► Start the BIOS Setup Utility and go to the Security menu.
► Highlight the Set Supervisor Password or Set User Password field and press the
Enter
key.
You will be requested to enter the current password by the Enter Current Password prompt.
Enter New Password will appear and you will be requ ested to enter a new password.
► Press the
Enter
key twice at th is request.
► In the Exi t menu, select the option Save Changes & Exit.
► Select Yes and press the
Enter
key.
The notebook will now reboot with the pa ssword removed.
With the s upervisor password, you simultaneously deactivate the user pa ssword.
Password protection for booting the operating system
With the s uperv
isor passw ord you have set in th e BIOS Setup Utility (see
section "
Assig
ning t he supervisor and user passwords", Page 67), you can
also prevent b
ooting o f the operating system.

Activating system protection
► Start the BIOS Setup Utility and go to the Security menu.

► Select the Password on Boot option and press the
Enter
key.
► Select the option you require (Disabled, First Boot or Every Boot) and press the
Enter
key
► Select the Save Changes & Exit option under Exit.
The notebook will reboot. You will be prompted to ente r your password (th e supervisor passw ord).
Deactivating system protection
► Start the BIOS Setup Utility and go to the Security menu.

► Select the Password on Boot option and press the
Enter
key.
► Select the Disabled option and press the
Enter
key.
If you do not want to change any othe r settings, you can exit BI OS Setup Utility.
► Select the Save Changes & Exit option under Exit.
The notebook will reboo t. The system is no longer password-protected.
