Security functions
Configuring password protection in B IOS Setup Utility
Before using the various options for password protection in the BIOS Setu p
Utility, please pro cee d as follows to increase data security:
Make a note of the passwords and keep them in a safe pla ce. If y ou forget your
supervisor password you will not be a ble to access your notebook. Passwords are
not covered by your warranty and a cha rge will be made for assistance.
Password protection
Your password can be up to
eight characters long a nd can contain letters and
numbers. No distinction
is made between uppercase and lowercase.
Protecting BIOS Setup Utility (supervisor password
and user p assword)
If you have opened these operating instructions on the screen, we recommend
that you print them out. You cannot call up the instructions on the screen
while you are setting up the password.
BIOSSetupUtility
The supervisor password an d the user p assw ord both prevent unauthorized use of the BIOS
Setup Utility. The supervisor password allows you to acce ss all of t he functions of the BIOS Setup
Utility, while the user password will only give you access to some of the functions. You can
only set up a use r password if a supervisor password has already bee n assigned.

"
Settings in BIOS S etup Utility", Page 55 .
Assigning the supervisor and user passwords
► Start the BI
OS Setup Utility and go to the Security menu.
► Select the Set Supervisor Password field and press the Enter key.
With Enter
new Password: you are asked to enter a password.
► Enter the password and press the Enter key.
Confirm ne
w Password requires you to confirm the password.
► Enter the password again and press the Enter key.
Changes
have been saved is displayed as a confirmation that the new password has been saved.
► To set th e user password, select Set User Password and proceed exactly as
when configuring the supervisor password.
If you d
o not want to change any other settings, you can exit BIOS Setup Utility.
► In the Exit menu, select the option Save Changes & Exit.

The notebook is then rebooted and the new password comes into effect. It will now be necessary
to first enter your supervisor or user password in order to open the BIOS Setup Utility.Please
note that th e user password only provides access to a few of the BIO S settings.
