5. Field Replaceable Unit
The Intel
®
Local Control Panel uses FLASH ROM space to act as the Field Replaceable Unit
(FRU) area to hold the board serial number, part number, and OEM customer information
according to the IPMI Platform Management Information Storage Definition.
The FRU storage document defines the following areas:
Common Header
Internal Use Area
Chassis Info Area (server board only)
Board Info Area: The following space is reserved for board information:
- Board Manufacturer Name: 5 bytes
- Board Product Name: 19 bytes
- Board Serial Number: 12 bytes
- Board Part Number: 10 bytes
- Board FRU File version string: 11 bytes
- Board Internal Custom Field 1: 14 bytes (reserved for operating system version
information)
- Board Internal Custom Field 2: 3 bytes (reserved for system BIOS information)
- Board Internal Custom Field 3: 4 bytes (reserved for system processor 1 information)
- Board Internal Custom Field 4: 4 bytes (reserved for system processor 2 information)
- Board Internal Custom Field 5: 4 bytes (reserved for system processor 3 information)
- Board Internal Custom Field 6: 4 bytes (reserved for system processor 4 information)

The Intel
®
Local Control Panel controller has 128 bytes of flash for the Intel
®
Local Control Panel
FRU. All areas in the FRU are optional, except for the internal use and common header. The
FRU device information can be accessed using the IPMI commands with a FRU device ID of
00h.
The content of areas other than Internal Use Area is specified by the loader file. Manufacturing
uses the loader file to initialize the Intel
®
Local Control Panel FRU.
All Board Internal Custom Fields listed above are reserved for future use and are not used in the
initial release of LCP Firmware.
