Removing and Installing the Server Board
Removing the Server Board
To remove the server board, follow these steps:
1. If installed, remove the PCI riser assembly. For instructions, see “Removing the
PCI Riser Assembly” on page 41.
2. If installed, remove the processor air duct. For instructions, see “Removing the
Processor Air Duct” on page 46.
3. If installed, remove the blue air baffle. For instructions, see “Removing the Small
Air Baffle” on page 56.
4. Hot-swap hard drive systems with passive backplane only: Disconnect the hard
drive SATA cables from the server board.
5. Hot-swap hard drive systems only: If installed, remove the bridge board. For
instructions, see step 4 in “Removing the Backplane Board” on page 81.
6. Remove the system fan assembly. For instructions, see “Removing the System Fan
Assembly” on page 90.
7. Disconnect all power cables coming from the power supply to the server board.
8. Remove the I/O expansion module, if installed. For instructions, see “Removing
the I/O Expansion Module” on page 69.
9. Remove the Intel
®
RMM3, if installed. For instructions, see “Removing the Intel
®
RMM3” on page 73.
10. If installed, remove memory, processor heatsink(s), and processor(s) from the
server board. For instructions, see “Removing DIMMs” on page 49 and “Removing
the Heatsink” on page 54.
11. Remove the nine screws from the server board (see letter “A” in Figure 74) and lift
the server board from the server system (see letter “B” in Figure 74).
