Description
Intel has discovered a potential marginal timing issue on the Intelligent Platform Management Bus (IPMB) of the Intel
®
Server Board S1200BTL when connected with a third party management device. The issue observed exhibits the
following symptom: BMC data reads of over 2 bytes from connected IPMB devices might fail to complete. Single or Two
byte reads between BMC IPMB and third party management devices are not affected by this issue.
The affected PBA of the server board is E98681-306. The Intel
®
Server Systems R1304BTLSFAN, R1304BTLSHBN,
P4304BTLSFCN and P4304BTLSHCN server boards with PBA E98681-306 are also affected.
Root Cause
The issue has been root caused to a violation of the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) and PM (Power
Management) Bus specification on the IPMB and PM Bus ports.
Corrective Action / Resolution
Intel is releasing a new BMC firmware Rev.01.05 to resolve this issue on April 30
th
, 2011. The system software update
package, including release notes will be available for download from Intel's support website at
http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/server/sb-s1200bt. Please refer to the release.txt in the software update
package for a list of changes made to the BIOS, BMC and FRUSDR.
