Intel

RAID SSD Cache Controller DRAM Cache
Cache Offload is a method to backup the contents of the cache into the Flash drives, which
are nonvolatile on-board Flash components on the
Intel
®
RAID SSD Cache Controller. This
feature deploys a method to backup, save, and persist the controller cache for

during unexpected power loss conditions. A SuperCap is used to
provide power while the controller offloads the cache contents from the DRAM to the
Flash drives, where the contents persist for extended periods. Upon system restart,
Intel
®
RAID SSD Cache Controller firmware restores the cache contents from the Flash drive and
flush into disks. The SuperCap based cache vaulting addresses a number of issues
associated with the battery based cache backup, such as battery maintained (learn cycles),
temperature tolerance, backup support time, and maintaining cache across controller
replacements.
For more information on how to create and modify cache, see the Intel
®
RAID Software
Users Guide.
