Active and Passive Power Management Capabilities
Reduce Energy Costs by $114 Per PC Per Year.
With the ability to turn off groups of PCs after hours and then
power them back up before the start of the next business day,
Internet Contrasts can now save their customers money through
lower energy usage, making a substantial positive impact on their
ROI. “If a customer has 20 PCs or more, this capability alone will
save them approximately $2,300 per year in power costs,” says
Zumwalt. “And if a customer is on a five-year lifecycle with their PCs,
that’s almost $10,000 in savings—which adds up to the price of a
server. Or put another way, you can buy 20 PCs and with a single
year’s power savings it’s like getting one free.”
Fewer truck rolls saves money and increases staff utilization.
“Without vPro, we have to send a tech onsite to diagnose problems
and I swear, 80 percent of the time, it’s simply that a cable has
come unplugged,” explains Zumwalt. “With vPro we can see what’s
going on with the machine and save a trip. From the customer’s
perspective, we seem like Johnny-on-the-spot and we fix the
problem without impacting their productivity. From our point of
view, we are increasing staff productivity and saving frustration.
We can also reload an OS remotely and this is a huge time saver for
us—a tech can rebuild a machine and never leave his chair,” says
Zumwalt. “vPro just makes sense from both a business and client
angle,” Zumwalt concludes. “If your car wasn’t working you wouldn’t
expect a mechanic to come to your house, right? It should be no
different with your laptop.”
Better Customer Experiences—Including 78% Less
Downtime—Improves Customer Satisfaction and TCO.
Intel vPro technology helps Internet Contrasts respond quickly and
remotely to customer issues. As a result, customers’ productivity
and satisfaction are both increased. “We’ve reduced downtime 78
percent and deskside visits by 50 percent. Sometimes customers
don’t realize the impact we are having because they’re not seeing
us. But I guarantee you that when some executive’s system goes
down and we can fix it remotely, then they understand the value
of vPro,” says Zumwalt. Intel vPro technology-based PCs also let
Internet Contrasts improve their strategic capabilities with clients.
“It’s not just about finding them the least expensive hardware. We
can show them how technology like vPro improves their TCO, even
if all we talk about is the power savings. Energy costs are never
going to decrease and we’re just cramming more electronics on the
grid. If I can show a customer how to save 5 percent or 10 percent a
year in energy costs, they’re going to listen to me.”
Intel vPro Technology Shows Customers
that IT Doesn’t Have to Be a Cost Center
For Brandon Zumwalt and the rest of the Internet Contrasts
team, there is no doubt that Intel vPro technology-based PCs
provide a competitive advantage. “vPro, in conjunction with our
LabTech management console, lets us have a single pane where
we can see all the endpoints we manage. And we manage more
than 800 endpoints, so once those are all vPro machines, the
time savings will help us improve our margin,” says Zumwalt. He
concludes with a final thought, “vPro lets us build more trust
with our clients because they see we have the ability to support
them wherever they are. That gives us a real advantage because
we can do more—and truly show our clients that IT doesn’t have
to be a cost center.”
