6. Service and Maintenance
6.1. Introduction
This section describes the steps required for service and maintenance of the monitor.
6.2. Servicing the BIS™ Advance
Monitor
Any type of service other than battery replacement may be performed only by
authorized service technicians. Information regarding service is provided to service
technicians in a separate service manual. For more information regarding servicing
the monitor, contact BISTechnicalsupport@medtronic.com.
For battery replacement, reference 6.3 Battery Handling, below.
WARNING: When no longer in use, this electronic equipment must be recycled
or disposed of properly. Follow local ordinances for the safe disposal of
electronic equipment. To obtain a new removable battery, contact
BISTechnicalsupport@medtronic.com.
Note: Do not service the device when it is attached to a patient.
6.3. Battery Handling
Check the battery annually by operating a BIS™ Advance monitor that has been
disconnected from the wall socket and that has been charging the battery for at least
4 hours when the monitor is powered off or 8 hours when the monitor is functioning.
If the monitor fails to operate reliably from the battery for at least one hour, battery
replacement is required.
