Settingmanagementfeatures
Toenableanetworkadministratortoremotelycontrolyourcomputer,setthefollowingsystem-management
featuresintheThinkPadSetupprogram:
•WakeonLAN
•NetworkBootsequence
•Flashupdate
Note:Ifasupervisorpasswordhasbeenset,youwillberequiredtoenterthesupervisorpasswordwhen
youstarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.
EnablingordisablingtheWakeonLANfeature
WhentheWakeonLANfeatureisenabledandthecomputerisconnectedtoaLAN,thenetworkadministrator
canstartthecomputerremotelyfromamanagementconsole,usingaremotenetwork-managementprogram.
ToenableordisabletheWakeonLANfeature,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.See“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage71.
2.SelectConfig➙Network.TheNetworksubmenuisdisplayed.
3.SelectacorrespondingoptionfortheWakeonLANfeature.
4.PressF10.ASetupConfirmationwindowisdisplayed.ClickYestosavetheconfigurationandexit
theThinkPadSetupprogram.
DefiningaNetworkBootsequence
WhenthecomputerwakesonLAN,thecomputerbootsfromthedeviceasspecifiedontheNetworkBoot
menu,andthenfollowthebootorderlistontheBootmenu.
TodefineaNetworkBootsequence,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.See“UsingtheThinkPadSetupprogram”onpage71.
2.SelectStartup➙NetworkBoot.Thebootdevicelistisdisplayed.
3.Selectabootdevicetomakeitasthetopbootpriority.
4.PressF10.ASetupConfirmationwindowisdisplayed.ClickYestosavetheconfigurationandexit
theThinkPadSetupprogram.
Note:YoucanpressF9torestoretothefactorydefaultsettings.
Checkingtherequirementsforflashupdates
Anetworkadministratorcanupdatetheprogramsonyourcomputerfromamanagementconsole,ifthe
followingrequirementsaremet:
•ThecomputermustbestartedoverLAN.
•ThecomputermustbeengagedinthePrebooteXecutionEnvironment(PXE).
•Anetwork-managementprogrammustbeinstalledonthecomputerofthenetworkadministrator.
