yoursupervisorpassword,Lenovocannotresetyourpassword.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovo
reselleroraLenovomarketingrepresentativetohavethesystemboardreplaced.Proofofpurchaseis
required,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.
Harddiskpasswords
Thefollowingtwotypesofharddiskpasswordscanhelpprotecttheinformationstoredontheharddisk
drive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrive:
•Userharddiskpassword
Ifauserharddiskpasswordhasbeenset,butnomasterharddiskpasswordhasbeen,theusermust
entertheuserharddiskpasswordtoaccessfilesandapplicationsontheharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,or
solid-statedrive.
•Masterharddiskpassword
Themasterharddiskpasswordalsorequiresauserharddiskpassword.Themasterharddiskpassword
isusuallysetandusedbyasystemadministrator.Itenablestheadministratortoaccessanyharddisk
drive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedriveinasystemlikeamasterkey.Theadministratorsetsthemaster
password;thenassignsauserpasswordforeachcomputerinthenetwork.Theusercanthenchangethe
userpasswordasdesired,buttheadministratorstillcangetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.
Whenamasterharddiskpasswordisset,onlytheadministratorcanremovetheuserharddiskpassword.
Settingaharddiskpassword
Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.
Tosetaharddiskpassword,dothefollowing:
1.Turnoffyourcomputer.Waitforaboutfiveseconds,andthenturnonthecomputeragain.
2.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1tostarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.
3.SelectSecurity➙Password➙Harddisk1Passwordbyusingthedirectionalkeys.
4.Apasswordwindowisdisplayed.YouarepromptedtoselectUserorUser+Master.SelectUserif
youwanttosetonlyoneharddiskpassword.SelectUser+Masterifyouwanttosetauserharddisk
passwordandamasterharddiskpassword,forexampleifyouareanadministratororasupervisor.
•IfyouselectUser,dothefollowing:
a.Whenawindowfortypingthenewpasswordopens,typeyournewpasswordintheEnterNew
PasswordfieldandpressEnter.
b.IntheConfirmNewPasswordfield,retypethepasswordyoujustenteredandpressEnter.
•IfyouselectUser+Master,dothefollowing:
a.First,setauserharddiskpassword.Whenamessagewindowpromptsyoutosettheuserhard
diskpassword,pressEntertocontinue.TypeyournewuserharddiskpasswordintheEnter
NewPasswordfieldandpressEnter.RetypethepasswordintheConfirmNewPassword
fieldandpressEnter.
b.Then,setamasterharddiskpassword.Whenamessagewindowpromptsyoutosetthemaster
harddiskpassword.PressEntertocontinue.Typeyournewmasterharddiskpasswordinthe
EnterNewPasswordfieldandpressEnter.RetypethepasswordintheConfirmNewPassword
fieldandpressEnter.
5.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertocontinue.
6.PressF10.ASetupConfirmationwindowisdisplayed.SelectYestosavetheconfigurationchanges
andexit.
