Performingarecoveryoperation
ThissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoperformarecoveryoperationusingtheRescueandRecovery
program.
1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageTools➙Enhanced
BackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.
2.IntheRescueandRecoveryprogrammainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecovery
arrow.
3.ClicktheRestoreyoursystemfromabackupicon.
4.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetherecoveryoperation.

UsingtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceresidesinaprotected,hiddenareaofyourharddiskdrive,hybrid
drive,orsolid-statedrivethatoperatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem.Thisenablesyou
toperformrecoveryoperationsevenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.Youcanperformthe
followingrecoveryoperationsfromtheRescueandRecoveryworkspace:
•Rescuefilesfromyourharddiskdriveorfromabackup
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutolocatefilesonyourharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,or
solid-statedriveandtransferthemtoanetworkdriveorotherrecordablemedia,suchasaUSBdeviceor
adisc.Thissolutionisavailableevenifyoudidnotbackupyourfilesorifchangesweremadetothe
filessinceyourlastbackupoperation.YoualsocanrescueindividualfilesfromaRescueandRecovery
backuplocatedonyourlocalharddiskdrive,aUSBdevice,oranetworkdrive.
•RestoreyourharddiskdrivefromaRescueandRecoverybackup
Ifyouhavebackedupyourharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedriveusingtheRescueand
Recoveryprogram,youcanrestoretheharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrivefromaRescue
andRecoverybackup,evenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.
•Restoreyourharddiskdrivetothefactorydefaultsettings
TheRescueandRecoveryworkspaceenablesyoutorestorethecompletecontentsofyourharddisk
drive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrivetothefactorydefaultsettings.Ifyouhavemultiplepartitionson
yourharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedriveyouhavetheoptiontorestorethefactorydefault
settingstotheC:partitionandleavetheotherpartitionsintact.BecausetheRescueandRecovery
workspaceoperatesindependentlyfromtheWindowsoperatingsystem,youcanrestorethefactory
defaultsettingsevenifyoucannotstarttheWindowsoperatingsystem.
Attention:Ifyourestoretheharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrivefromaRescueandRecovery
backuporrestoretheharddiskdrive,hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrivetothefactorydefaultsettings,all
filesontheprimaryharddiskdrivepartition(usuallydriveC:)willbedeletedintherecoveryprocess.If
possible,makecopiesofimportantfiles.IfyouareunabletostarttheWindowsoperatingsystem,youcan
usetherescuefilesfeatureoftheRescueandRecoveryworkspacetocopyfilesfromyourharddiskdrive,
hybriddrive,orsolid-statedrivetoothermedia.
TostarttheRescueandRecoveryworkspace,dothefollowing:
1.Makesurethatthecomputeristurnedoff.
2.RepeatedlypressandreleasetheF11keywhenturningonthecomputer.Whenyouhearbeepsor
seealogoscreen,releasetheF11key.
